The 37 footer JEUNESSE was built for W J Harper and launched in March 1919 as RAMBLER. Harper changed his mind and renamed her JEUNESSE by the start of the summer of 1919-20. None of the magazines or newspapers say who built her but Dick Lang looks a just bet as she was fitted St. Mary’s Bay. Reportage on such things was pretty scant at that time due to Spanish ‘Flu outbreak. She was fitted with a 40hp Reutenberg 4 cylinder engine. Harper sold the launch KOTIRO when JEUNESSE was built. He kept her till 1923 when he sold her to H Hewson. N C McLean & R Kirkwood owned her in 1926. (waitematawoodys.com)

It had been three days since our last passing contact with civilization; a radio exchange with a remote lighthouse to give the obliged identification info so when we sighted the distinctive form of a sail on the horizon excitement broke out onboard. John hailed the vessel on the VHF and a answer came stating they were the yacht Chiloe on their way south. In the elation of seeing another vessel John asked them to think about stopping to join us for Thai stir-fry dinner. Yes” came the short answer. As Chiloe’s sails grew bigger I wondered as to the extent of her crew so I called on the VHF asking how many to expect for dinner. (mahina.com)

Who does not love a canyon? While it can not compete with the great Canyon, the Santa Elena Canyon has own special charm. We did a comparatively short hike into the canyon 1. 7 miles round trip and saw some spectacular scenery. After climbing up paved steps, you descend down to the canyon floor and meander along for a while till the trail ends at the canyon wall. We also did the Boquillas Canyon trail on the reverse end of the park. A nice walk, however if you only have time for one, go with Santa Elena. (thecynicalsailor.blogspot.com)
