Fishcrazy, Which is rockcliffs? I have only seen the water on aerial photos and maps so I ‘m not familiar with the layout. The one satellite photo that I looked up had about a million powerboat wakes on it so I’m certainly interested in keeping away from them. I use a drop shot at my local lake so I am pretty familiar with it. It generally amazes me how close to my fins a 12 inch smallmouth will take a bait. Do the smallies like the black baits or light? The water at CJ strike is generally murky and black works best for me here. (bigfishtackle.mobi)
Fishing for cutthroat trout, lake trout and whitefish was good. The ‘rockpile’ off Ideal Beach was good for both trout and whitefish. The whitefish are primarily taken right over the rocks in depths of 40 to 50 feet. Trout are found in water depths of 50 to 75 feet in the same general area. Other good spots this week have been along the highway pull-offs south of Gus Rich Point in water from about 50 to 70 feet deep for trout. The rockpiles just north of the Bear Lake State Park marina have not had lots of pressure this week, however the anglers fishing them are catching some nice-sized cutthroats. (utahfishfinder.com)

MILL HOLLOW RESERVOIR: August 31 Anglers are seeing good success for trout. Most are using conventional baits and lures. Fishing pressure is light throughout the week, and a bit heavier on weekends. This is a good reservoir to attempt your hand at catching fish with a fly and a bubble around sunrise or dusk. Use about three to four feet of leader between the fly and bubble and retrieve gradually toward shoreline. The campgrounds are open. Call the U. S. Forest Service at 435-654-0470 for more info on camping in this area. (outdoornews.com)
Once the application is received, a UDWR biologist will visit the pond to be sure that it is not situated on a naturally flowing stream. The biologist will also check to be sure that permanent screens are installed on the inflows and outflows, to keep fish from moving out of the pond. Screens must be small enough to stop small fish from leaving the pond, however small mesh frequently becomes plugged with debris. It is the pond owner’s responsibility to keep the screens clean, so they may want to ask a UDWR biologist for suggestions about the best screen designs. (backcountry-utah.com)
The year of the striper continues with many numbers of hungry stripers searching for food. The lakewide pattern is to graph the back 3rd of the canyon looking for fish traces. Concentrate on the contour between 40 and 70 feet. Stripers will frequently be in the submerged creek channel on the breaking edge where depth quickly increases. Find a school and drop spoons to see if the school may be started. Attempt trolling deep with downriggers or flat-line diving lures that go deeper than 20 feet. The 1st two techniques may work, however if they fail to arouse the resting school, anchor, chum with anchovies and catch as many fish as needed. (deseretnews.com)

Fishing was good for us the last couple of weeks. We have found time between snow storms to get out and fish some of our favorite waters. The Lower Provo was pretty good the water is low and the fish are stacked in the deep slower regions we have had some good sucess on big fish nymphing the sow bugs and some midges. The center Provo also has been good usually nymph fishing, the fish just aren’t up much still. More bugs are hatching down low on the center long slender body midges, still small, and black. The highlight of our last month of fly fishing was a trip out to the Green. Travel out to the Green was hard to say the least this winter but we managed to get out last week. (troutbum2.com)
To get to the Upper Provo itself is pretty simple. From Heber City head North on Highway 40 to the light on River Road/SR 32 and turn East towards Kamas. Follow SR 32 for about 8 miles. SR 32 wraps around Jordanelle Reservoir and crosses the Upper Provo River near its inlet with the Reservoir. Here is the lowest point of the Upper Provo. From here till you get into the National Forest the River passes in and out of Private Property. From SR 32 the river follows along the Lower River Road that cuts off right before to get to Oakley. The river then cuts through the hills and mountains and meets up with Highway 150 from Kamas, the Mirror Lake Highway, and follows close to that highway to its headwaters. (ccflyco.com)
The good news is that gillnet surveys the past several years show there are more and more rainbow available. One reason is the current management plan calls for bigger fish to be placed. Biologists found smaller fish were being eaten by bigger fish and birds. Anglers report good success using a fly and bubble, Jake’s turn-A-tempt, PowerBait and nightcrawlers. Good flies are black or light-green Woolley Buggers and green and white streamers. Garlic and salmon egg PowerBait have also been working well. Fly fishermen are using a medium-sink line with No. 8 bead-head tan, green or pearl; No. (saltlakemagazine.com)
