Thanks so the Baja’ and expressing your concern for the fish handling. I agree with you on doing the best for the fish but in this specific spot there are what I believe are larger concerns. The surf on the Pacific side of the Baja is very strong and it drops off to deep water quickly. I believe Stephen Jansen you wrote about this after your comment and he’s totally correct. What he failed to talk about was that we had just lost a surf fisherman there a short time before this filming. This was a seasoned veteran that just got a bit careless and his body was found just down the beach from where we were filming. (fishthebaja.com)
His Cabo Killer, in a range of color mixes, is a local favorite. It’s one of his early designs adapted mainly to fish the surf in different conditions. Alike to the well-liked Ranger born on the East Coast to target striped bass, Jansen’s variant sports a weighted keel so it doesn t flip over and tangle; the arrow form lets long casts and a fast retrieve. Available in a range of colors, the most well-liked are ballyhoo, blue mackerel, and red and white as indicated by Jansen. Confirming how efficient the Cabo Killer is, Jansen made a photo of a big dorado caught the week before my visit with a Cabo Killer hanging out of its mouth. (wonews.com)
Has a and you may be able to bring it every time with you. Slips right in the luggage, Just take the reel in your carry on but leave the spool with the line also as your lures with hooks in your checked as it’s a TSA no no in your carry on. I bring mine every time I go with no problems. Not to deflect Rocky's gracious offer, just another choice. I like to know that my stuff is prepared to go, new line, oiled reel etc etc. One last thing, if it be yours or Rocky's equipment. Take a shower with it when you’re done! No joke! it’s a must to get the salt off the rod and reel so no corrosion invades the moveable parts. (tripadvisor.com)
His enthusiasm is infectious as he points to the lures of every color of the rainbow covering one wall. Many residing on that wall he custom intended. Sportcruisers are another choice if you want to go fly fishing in Cabo. Some fishing charter businesses have boats equipped for only light tackle and fly fishing. Many have all the needed gear, tackle, and an expert captain whose expertise is fly fishing. But, you may want to call ahead and be sure that the ship you’re renting has fly fishing equipment just to make sure. A fly fishing charter typically costs about $550 -$600 for 8 hours. . , around 8:00 AM, things changed. We spotted this big school of feeding ladyfish or mullet breaking the surface in the surf line right up to the beach. They were feeding on small baitfishes that were about 1 to 2 inches long. Clearly, with all the ladyfish, the roosters and jacks could not be too far behind. Nearly at the same time all four of us got hooked up. Louis had chased the school a pretty ways down the beach, but Dustin, Stephen and myself stayed close together. Dustin and I each had 3 hookups come unbuttoned on what we agreed were all fish in the 50-lb class. Dustin got one on that he afterward released and was estimated at the upper 40-lb range. A couple of questions, If you catch a fish that you want to keep, where do you clean it? Do you take a filet knife and clean it on the beach? I could imagine they could not want this done in the rooms. Maybe you just catch and release? A second question, where do you like to take your fish to have it prepared, or do like to cook it yourself in your room. Unlike the rest of my family, I’m an early riser too and this surf fishing thing sounds fun. We also own at PBSB and I have generally looked at those rocks sticking out of the surf and thought it looked fishy. I could get my fishn fix in before my wife/kids got up. (trip-pub.com)
>>I have friends that fish from that beach all the time. Here is what they tell me. Fling whatever you’re fishing with as far as you may be able to i. E. Need a comparatively long rod for distance and retrieve as fast as you may be able to all these fish are constructed for speed and like a tempt coming back fast . Their favorite tempt is simply a hootchie plastic squid body over a 1/2 oz. Egg weight. They also use casting spoons like the Kastmaster and Crocodile with buzz bombs and bucktail or plastic jigs. Fashion some short wire leaders or at least a leader of 50-60 lb. Big game line, since most of these critters are really toothy. (Visit this web-site)
For those unfamiliar with trolling, this technique requires the fisherman to drop trolling lures or bait into the water from different positions over the side or behind the ship. Then they let out their line and drive the cruise forward gradually common tempt trolling speeds will differ from 6 to 12 knots, pulling or trolling the lures to make them appear like real and delicious baitfish. On occasion the tempt, spoon or live bait is cast to a preset distance and pulled back at different speeds/depths; some have a weight on the line to keep them at some depth. Trolling is surely one of the most well-liked fishing techniques for catching billfish, dorado, and tuna in Cabo and the world. (cabofishinglovers.com.mx)
