Thanks so the Baja’ and expressing your concern for the fish handling. I agree with you on doing the best for the fish but in this specific spot there are what I believe are larger concerns. The surf on the Pacific side of the Baja is very strong and it drops off to deep water quickly. I believe Stephen Jansen you wrote about this after your comment and he’s totally correct. What he failed to talk about was that we had just lost a surf fisherman there a short time before this filming. Slips right in the luggage, Just take the reel in your carry on but leave the spool with the line also as your lures with hooks in your checked as it’s a TSA no no in your carry on. I bring mine every time I go with no problems. Not to deflect Rocky's gracious offer, just another choice. , around 8:00 AM, things changed. We spotted this big school of feeding ladyfish or mullet breaking the surface in the surf line right up to the beach. They were feeding on small baitfishes that were about 1 to 2 inches long. Clearly, with all the ladyfish, the roosters and jacks could not be too far behind. Nearly at the same time all four of us got hooked up. Louis had chased the school a pretty ways down the beach, but Dustin, Stephen and myself stayed close together. Dustin and I each had 3 hookups come unbuttoned on what we agreed were all fish in the 50-lb class. Dustin got one on that he afterward released and was estimated at the upper 40-lb range. A couple of questions, If you catch a fish that you want to keep, where do you clean it? Do you take a filet knife and clean it on the beach? I could imagine they could not want this done in the rooms. Maybe you just catch and release? A second question, where do you like to take your fish to have it prepared, or do like to cook it yourself in your room. Unlike the rest of my family, I’m an early riser too and this surf fishing thing sounds fun. We also own at PBSB and I have generally looked at those rocks sticking out of the surf and thought it looked fishy. I could get my fishn fix in before my wife/kids got up. (trip-pub.com)
