Jamesville Reservoir Fishing Report

Jamesville Reservoir of Jamesville. The reservoir was made by the impounding of a part of Butternut Creek. Like many of the area reservoirs, it was first constructed to supply water to the Erie Canal. Jamesville Beach County Park borders most of the south west corner of the reservoir. The major gamefish in the reservoir are largemouth and smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, tiger musky and walleye. White perch, pumpkinseed sunfish, bluegill, black crappie, and yellow perch are found in the reservoir. (fishonondagacounty.com)

The Fishing Access Trail, 200 yards long and 8-10′ large features good access for shoreline fishing in the Reservoir and Butternut Creek and leads to the 1/4 mile Off-Leash Dog Walking Trail. The 10k Cross-Country Running Trail is 5-16′ large and features calculated distances, marked start and finish lines and course markers and also leads to the Dog Trail. All this that so many people take an interest in the lake and it is capability to keep producing some remaining walleye catches. With all this information I read about the 50 day fingerling being stocked at the numbers of 44000 what concerns me is how long does it take to grow to the legal lengths to be harvested? Do they grow some number of inches like they do in Erie. I also read where they tried a pen rearing project but it failed caused by starvation, if they may be successful with the salmon why can not that be a possibility for Otisco, I realize it takes lots to do this and to feed these fish, I surely can not put names down to attempt this but I think there could be enough people wanting to give there time to make this a successful Idea, I for one could want to help with such an idea. Last weekend I went out for the 1st time this year on a really temperamental lake. The winds were blowing approx. 20-25 mph so it was blowing pretty hard. The winds seemed to be blowing westward strange? and on the west side of the lake I could see huge schools of bait fish. Though it was windy, I have decided to fish this area thinking the bass could probably want to feed. I tried lots of subtle approaches like dropshot, texas rigged worms and slow presentation jigs. I fished that side of the lake for about 3 hours with no luck, not a bite. (bassresource.com)

Still, if God were to build a trout stream for his personal use, I believe it could bear an uncanny likeness to the West Branch, which is one of the most scenic rivers anywhere. If its greatest days are behind it, the Ausable still affords some great fishing, thanks to restrictive rules and generous stockings from the Essex County hatchery also as state tanker trucks. With two no-kill sections on the river, its stockers can be caught many times. Because the browns and rainbows stocked in the Ausable by the county fish farm frequently measure 15 to 18 inches or longer, anglers who recurrent the stream may be confident of casting over rod-benders all season long. Rick took the podium after introductions and started his powerpoint presentation, Syracuse Area Streams . It was evident from the start that Rick knew his area waters well. He provided in depth map hand-outs to the audience, all marked with particular regions of interest to the fly angler. His talk covered the 4 main trout creeks in the Syracuse area and he provided good fly fishing intel on every one, highlighted with some personal stories that were entertaining. He portrayed all 4 as good fisheries with a mix of stocked and wild browns and brookies. A 16 brown, although not rare, is a good fish from these freestone creeks, as indicated by Cramer, with some bigger ones to be found. (examiner.com)

The race begins in Jamesville Reservoir, where athletes will complete a 1. 2-mile, single-loop swim. The 56-mile bike course winds through the Highland Forest recreational area, taking athletes through the picturesque, rolling countryside of Onondaga, Madison, and Cortland counties. This past October, the Iroquois Group and the Jamesville Positive Action board JAMPAC supported a program by Neil Seldman, Ph. D, co-founder and president of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance ILSR in Washington D. C. Seldman discussed the many challenges posed by Onondaga county s waste incinerator and community waste stream, also as the greatly controversial Ash for Trash plan.
