Westminster Ponds is on the Ingersoll Moraine, an east-west ridge of stony soil till . This material was deposited by meltwater pouring from a glacier when its leading edge stalled at this place for a time. Big blocks of ice also broke off the glacier and became implanted in the moraine. When the ice sheet receded 13, 000 years ago, the ice chunks melted to create water-filled depressions. We noticed some issues with our electrical on the trip to Albion Hills. Nothing seemed to be working off our battery. It had worked on our last trip out to Pittock CA, so something had changed since then. Nothing that should run off battery power could seem to run like slides, lights or landing gear. The battery seemed to have power. We called our dealer once we were home and learned that the issue was to do with two little boxes housed on the frame of the trailer. It looks the battery power is split between these boxes, both powering different things. Our dealer was supposed to send a tech before our weekend trip to Mara, however they did not make it. We stayed for one night on a mini holiday. We shall certainly go back! Our 1st impression was that it was ideally situated right on the south shore of Lake Simcoe – all the rooms back onto the beach and have a great view of the lake. The rooms are spacious with 2 comfy double beds and a well equipped kitchenette with an eat-in area looking out onto the lake through patio doors. The kitchen has a full sized fridge, a 2 burner cook top, a small microwave, a drip coffee maker and comes with adequate plates and cutlery for 4. None of this info is on their website which is a pity, as we could have been better prepared and brought our own coffee, milk, sugar and breakfast provisions. (tripadvisor.com)

We decided that the day was too nice to be done riding so after picking up the kids from school we headed for Gosh Dam Place near Lake Winnibigoshish for dinner. We left the resort and headed west this time on the Buschwacker. We stopped for gas at River Rat Trading Post which is right on the trail between Cohasset and Deer River, then kept on going. The Bushwacker heads west toward Deer River, MN down Highway 2 which is a divided two-lane highway. The eastbound lane of the trail is on the north side of Highway 2 and the westbound lane runs along the south side. From Deer River we headed north and the trail took us through a part of Itasca County that was hit so hard by the July 2nd storm last summer. (wildwoodresort.net)

Fireman, Vegreville trout pond just past the turn off to Vegreville heading east has Perch and Rainbows. Once you drive under the Veg. Overpass keep driving nabout 5 km and you’ll see a chain link fence on your right hand side. Pond is right on the other side. Watch out for open water in the south ends winter air raiding effectively . Stay on the North to 1/2 way point. Ice thickness in those regions is about 18 thick. Perch range in size under 6, Rainbows differ from 6-14 . Nice pond for kids to stay interested. Attempt shrimp they seem to go for it all the time. (ifishalberta.com)
