Went on friend on the New Huck Finn, my 1st time going fishing on a ship. Went fishing for rock cod and ling cod, caught my bound of rock cod and 1 good size ling cod. The captain and the deckhand were both really nice and useful to me and my friend, we both took motion illness pills but we still were close to throwing up. One of them could generally come by and bait my hook and unhook the fish I caught because I wasn't feeling well. I thought my fishing pole was large enough for the trip but it wasn't, captain Jay was nice enough to let me use one of his rods for the remainder of the trip. (yelp.com)

, Captain sturgeon season over as of Sunday. The week s fishing made good action with a total of 41 shaker sturgeon, 1 oversized and 7 keepers. James Williams of San Francisco released his 65 incher, however Tim Horner of Sacramento got to keep his 49 incher, a bit smaller than 10-year-old daughter Cassidy s 51 incher. Ken Cross of Benicia caught a 53 incher, and Jon Skiles of Fairfield boated a 54 incher. Nathan Haratani of El Cerrito also got a keeper, his going 51 inches, and Jamie Perkins of Napa caught the biggest keeper of the week at 55 inches. (wonews.com)

The captain of Flash stayed at the helm keeping his bilge pumps running. Once the passengers were carefully moved to Superfish, New Huck Finn pulled-up to Flash and moved their crew member to Flash, to help the captain who couldn’t leave the helm. C-Gull II then pulled up and moved a high-volume pump and electric extension cord to the helping crew member. After a couple halibut up to 16 pounds early in the morning, we enjoyed a steady bite of striped bass ranging from undersized shakers to a whopper of 13 pounds. If you want to have more fishing time out of HMB i could recommend the Ankeny Street on the weekends. Not as crowded as the queenie and a super shallow water experience. You’ll be fishing inside 20 mins and they have been killing them in the shallows these last few weeks. For farallon or farther trips i recommend the tigerfish for the same reason. SMITH RIVER >> The Smith was high all week, however still lower than the Chetco, so it drew the concentrate of the Rowdy Creek Derby and all 44 guides throughout the 2-day derby on Friday and Saturday. It was won by Guides Mike Coopman and Dave Carney, who led their team to a 1st-place finish, as their four anglers landed eight steelhead totaling 230 inches. The winning team consisted of Tommy Chew, Eric Schweikl, Jason Shanle and Nick Angeli. Guides Kevin Brock and Mario Arguilles led their team to second place with eight fish that calculated 226 inches. They had five boats working the bay and outside the Gate today, Friday 7-17 for 67 halibut to 30-pounds, 4 stripers to14-pounds, 255 rockfish and 14 lings to 18-pounds for 81 passengers. That is some great action! The Stockton Chapter of the California Striped Bass affiliation will be out there tomorrow on the New Seeker seeking some big halibut. In the past, the club was unwilling to head outside the Gate, however if they want to get in on the action, they’ll have to make an modification on their geographical restrictions. (976-tuna.com)
