Anglers planning lakes will probably find some of the best fishing at Horseshoe Lake, where 600 rainbows of legal size have been placed, plus another 100 trout at least 14 inches long. Combustion motors aren’t allowed on this 39 acre gem. Straddling the Pierce and Kitsap county lines, this lake has an access site offered by WDFW. There isn’t much parking, so plan ahead. The ship ramp is best suited for hand launched craft like float tubes and kayaks, as the ramp is pretty shallow. Rainbow and brown trout are the major quarry. The fishing season is split on this lake, open the last Saturday in April to June 30, then closed for July and August, and open again from September 1 to November 30. (gigharborflyshop.com)

This lake Crappie, Steelhead and Salmon. Fishing is best from May to September. Access is from Southworth, south and west on Sedgewick Rd WA 160, to a left on Long Lake Rd to a right at the Y to Clover Valley Rd. SE. To a left on Brook Street SE. And the launch area. Residents growing up in the neighborhood remember being told by their parents to avoid the decadent dance hall. It was quite the thing at that time. It was the place to hang out. It had a pretty repute. Sailors used to go there all the time. It caused problems as they used to get in fights all the time. The dance hall was torn down in 1959. Today the county park still packs in the young adults. On a summer weekend, the beach is filled with sunbathers and swimmers. Because Horseshoe Lake is shallow and spring fed, it remains clean in the center of summer. KHQ. COM – A blood-stained knife found on the OJ Simpson estate is being investigated and tested for hair and fingerprints after being handed over to the L. A. P. D. ‘s Robbery murder Division. As indicated by TMZ, a construction worker found the knife buried on the Simpson estate "years ago" and turned it over to an off-responsibility police officer who kept it in his home till just recently turning it over to police in January. Lakes that usually perform well on the Lowland Lakes Opener did so again this year. Anglers fishing Starvation 3. 8 fish per angler, Rocky 3. 6 fish per angler, and Cedar Lake 3. 6 fish per angler, did well again this year. Waitts Lake also fished well. Diamond Lake kind of fizzled, probably due primarily to water temperature low 40 deg F range . Big Meadow Lake was usually inaccessible caused by snow and ice no-one attempted to fish it . In Thurston County, Larry Phillips stated that, with a couple of exemptions anglers fishing Thurston Co. Lake had good fishing today. The quantity and quality of this year’s fish were good, thanks to the hatchery staff at Lakewood and Eells Springs fish hatcheries. There were no real surprises this year with the exemption of Deep Lake. Deep Lake was surveyed by former WDFW biologist Chuck Baranski who saw few catchable size fish in the creel. The lake was stocked in late March, and we have observed that catchable trout suffer important mortality when stocked too far ahead of the opener. This park is really really nice and really quite big. There’s a baseball field and a really nice community center perfect for like a family get together or maybe for a small wedding reception or bake sale or square dance see pics . There’s also a nice playground with moderately decent equipment. I thought it was cool that this park had recyclers and solar powered trash compactors everywhere. Awesome for alternative power. There’s also a fishing pier. Big access to the water. You may be able to walk right up to the lake so watch your kids! Bring a folding bench and just sit back and relax by the lake. (yelp.com)

This system-large evaluation of avian predation indicated that, among the nine piscivorous waterbird colonies investigated, Caspian terns and double-crested cormorants nesting on East Sand Island in the Columbia River estuary were consuming the highest proportions of available PIT-tagged smolts, with joint losses ranging from a low of 2. 6 for Willamette spring Chinook to a high of 18. 2 for Snake River summer steelhead throughout 2004-2009. Estimated predation rates related with the tern and cormorant colonies in the estuary were usually 2-5 times greater than for inland bird colonies.
