Boards were that are in the top 25 ft of the water column. They aren’t intended for running deep lines. Usually trolling in the Bay consists of using Umbrella rigs with Parachutes. Bucktail rigs and double rigged rubber lures, Tsunami’s, Storms etc. These all work well with Boards and shouldn’t require any weight. Spoons may be used on Boards, however caused by spoon design, tangles may happen if mixed with other lures. (downtimecharters.com)
A couple of ideas not covered in the plans. The 1st is to add a flag to your boards. Quinte is narrow in spots and adding a greatly observable flag will give others on the water time to manoeuvre clear of your board. The second suggestion is about paint, decide paint with hardener and a high gloss finish then apply some number of coats to your boards. This won’t only give the boards a professional look but also a shine, which will aid the visibility. Enjoy your new boards and the sense of accomplishment that will accompany your 1st planer board fish. (quintefishing.com)
Founded in 1999, Michigan-Sportsman. Com started as a group of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999 we started our 1st message board. After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in afterward years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many have made long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. (michigan-sportsman.com)
I also intended a 6 foot tall mast for the planer boards that slides into the deck hole for one of my front pedestal seats. it’s just 1 1/2 EMT with 6 eye bolts. 1 eye screw on each side at the top that the line runs through and 2 more eye bolts 2 feet separately starting a foot down that I can wrap the line around like cleats. I put on 75′ of high visibility line and some small carabiner clips to attach to the planer boards. All together this was about $30. (southender.proboards.com)

122711. I recently got interested in fishing when I went out with my father’s boss trolling for walleye using your OR12 Side Planers and I was hooked now. I run 6 poles 3 off both sides and I have been visiting your web site and will be upgrading my boards with the OR12TF Tattle Flag Kit. I have read lots about these and from what I understand it sounds like people have the lines release from the clips when they have a fish? I was just wondering if that’s the way they’re supposed to work. I have personally had no problems other than having 2 tangle ups last season but I put it on operator error new ship driver . Sells a bungee cord for their planer boards so there must be a reason for them. I do have problems with the pulleys in that the line comes off the wheel and gets down between the wheel and the frame. I plan to get better pulleys at a sail ship shop one day but they’re lots costly. Wh2 I do not remember how much I spent on materials. I do not think its over $50 for the whole setup, mast and boards. Smalls The hand crank is a nylon spacer bought at Lowes. Its on a screw that’s threaded into the flange of the reel with a nut jammed against the outside of the flange to hold it. I do not have any more pictures now but maybe I could take some. Since walleyesusually enough to free the release, walleye fishermen slowlywind the board to the ship, remove it from the line by hand, then work thefish to the net. To speed the procedure of detaching the board for walleyeanglers, Off Shore replaced the rear corkscrew with a second release clip. Striper fishermen will be happy to learn that Off Shore also has presented anew orange board, the OR-31, with the original corkscrew line attachment. (outdoorlife.com)
A planer board lets you to troll fish with many rigs without them tangling. You may be able to position many planer boards to both port and starboard, set to different distances, with the boards attached to lines nearest the bow of the ship set farther out than the boards coming off the stern. This lets each line to troll behind the ship without to get in the way of the others. Also, planer boards let you to cover regions that you otherwise would not be able to reach with conventional means of fishing. Usually when trolling, you are restricted to how far out from your ship you may be able to reach. (ehow.com)
