Saturday 16th at Hanningfield taking a novice out in the morning. I opted to fish lodge bay where I had caught on Thursday. I rarely put up my rod when taking out a novice but fixed him up with just two buzzers and a somewhat shorter leader to help with his casting – nothing. After two hours I put my rod together 1st cast and a nice stockie took my buzzer, handed my rod over and the novice brought it to the net. 3rd cast and the same thing. I filled my rod away. Concentrating on why the novice missed bites he started to see them but still failed to connect, till at last he brought the biggest fish of the day in and went home happy. Anyway I am not saying that the people mentioned above are a true representation of the types of anglers that you will get at Hanningfield with the new rules, however you will no doubt get some like it. Maybe more serious coarse anglers will be far better behaved who knows. If I was your club Charlie I could reference the Llandegfedd problems and urge the fishery management to contact the Llandegfedd head ranger Tony Busby for acknowledgement of the trouble they had there and I think they may well give the whole idea a second thought. Is a 700-year old roadhouse in a picturesque village place, near Hanningfield reservoir, which is famous for its trout fishing and local nature reserves. Located on the edge of the village green at West Hanningfield, six miles south of Chelmsford. Rosemary Cotton and her family have been serving the public for 33 years and was a free house since 1998. It’s still a conventional village pub with homemade food, good ales and a welcoming atmosphere. (chelmsford.angle.uk.com)

. The reservoir was constructed in the early 1950s by flooding an ancient hamlet called Peasdown. It’s now fed by close rivers, Blackwater and Chelmer. The reservoir boasts some leisure actions as well as trout fishing and bird-watching. On its shores, visitors may also enjoy an orienteering course or the chance to amble through the nature trails that criss-cross its 30 acres of beautiful, ancient woodland. (eguidetravel.com)
Once home, I e-mailed two fishermen friends with far more experience than I and asked them why it’s that on occasion fish just do not bite the bastards . Philip Parkinson of Sportfish a former fisheries scientist said he thought it was typically the start of a change in the weather. There’s no doubt that fish react to imminent weather changes changes in barometric pressure . Some fish are more fickle in their reaction to changes in barometric pressure than others and I suspect that natural fish are more influenced than recently stocked trout. His when-all-else- fails tip? Go and do something else for the day. (independent.co.uk)
