Fishing is good in the Louisiana Delta a year long. I haven’t been there in the summer for evident reasons but Captain Alec Griffin told me that if you may be able to handle the heat there are some great opportunities in the summer months for Bull Redfish, big jacks, and tarpon. The biggest concentration of big Redfish occurs throughout the winter months from late November through February but you generally have a shot at a big fish regardless what time of the season. Some of the best fishing is in the spring. The weather is usually a bit more dependable and the Redfish are active. Out back are three pre-Columbian fish traps built by indigenous residents. Large semi circle rings of rocks placed in the corners of the bay. This must have been the number one spot for the indians back when they inhabited the islands. Out front from the white beach, the bay is protected by Isla Rancharia and some number of smaller islands. It s the best anchorage in the islands. Out in the canal between Rancharia & Coiba are some number of rocks. A good oceanic current runs through there. Fish clung in masses over these rocks. They still do to a lesser degree.
