The Curt Gowdy lakes are the best place in the neighborhood to go and simply catch fish. Many species co-exist in both Crystal and Granite Reservoirs, as well as Rainbow, Cutthroat, Lake and Brown trout, and Yellow Perch. Most fish caught are in the 8 -12 range with some brood stock going over 18 . Granite is the biggest of the three lakes and lots of people go boating out here and it’s more of a recreation lake. There’s an outdoor archery range, play ground and lots of camping regions around the lake. (Visit site)
The baits that you’ll want to take with you include live baits, crank baits, spoons, spinner baits which are smaller also as your common selection of different worms and grubs. In the spring you’ll want to look for fish in the shallow to moderately shallow waters as they’re to get prepared to spawn. Check in regions of the lake that have gravel ledges, points and bumps that are raised above the water as they are their favorite places. In the summer and fall seasons you’ll have more success catching walleyes if you travel along points and gravel bars in the earlier mornings and move the deeper waters as the sun gets higher in the sky. The buzz: Reports are skimpy since about the only way to get to any of the mountain lakes is via skis, snowshoes or, maybe, snowmobile. The webcams for Lake Owen and Rob Roy Reservoir point to some open water, so the fishing may be great for those making the trek across the snow to get there. In the meantime, there is no word still on when Highway 130 will open over the Snowy Range. It is not likely it’ll open by Memorial Day but check the WDOT web site for updates. As of the start of the week the U. S. Natural Resources Conservation Service snow-measuring station reports a snow depth of 85 inches at Cinnabar Park, near Rob Roy Reservoir, a 2-inch increase from last week. (wyomingnews.com)
While new records are an yearly occurrence, records for some species aren’t probably to be set anytime soon. Leading the list of nearly untouchable records is the 11-pound, 4-oz golden trout caught in 1948 also the world record or the 23-pound rainbow trout caught in 1969. But, there are record fish out there. Lake trout bigger than 50 pounds have been caught and released in recent years in nets on Flaming Gorge Reservoir, and nearly surely bigger tiger trout than the 11 pounder caught in High Savery Reservoir in 2012 are swimming around in that lake. A glance at the records shows that half of Wyoming s entries have been caught since 2000. (archive.county10.com)
Previous to the 1970s, finding of this species in Lake Superior was considered greatly probably, as it was already there in all of the other Great Lakes, as well as Lake Huron to which Lake Superior is directly connected Barney 1926, Richardson 1831 . The same project also involved construction of the Grayrocks Dam, 11 miles east of the Laramie River Power Station. Conservation groups protested at the time, arguing construction could harm wildlife along the river, particularly the whooping crane population downstream from the dam. In December 1978, the Department of the Interior determined that the crane population and the reservoir construction could coexist, and the company and the conservationists negotiated a settlement whereby the company set up a $7. 5 million trust fund for habitat improvement in Wyoming and Nebraska. Reifschneider had been fishing the North Platte River for some number of days for catfish and walleye and had caught some fish when the new record shad took his jig and crawler offering. He had never caught a gizzard shad before, however his fishing partner, Logan Harris, recognized the fish and said it was a big one and he should get it weighed. After weighing the fish on a scale at home, he went to the local supermarket where it was weighed on an official scale and confirmed as a new state record. (missoulian.com)
