The fishing day on the great Ronde begins as we launch our drift boats and prepared our rods at 9:00 am, as we drift the river your guide will steady the ship while you cast into the riffles and rocky shore lines where the trout lay and wait. At noon we ll find a beautiful bench where we’ll stop and prepare a deluxe shore lunch, we remain here for about 2 hours, allowing your guide to rest his arms and you to do some shore fishing or simply sit back, relax and take in the beauty and serenity that the great Ronde has to offer. After lunch we’re back in the drift boat s fishing our way down to our evenings camp site, Where our camp will have been predetermined and awaiting our arrival, we supply big spacious tents, cot s, shower, comfy lounge chair s and a bond fir where we all can exchange our stories from the days fishing. All week we had been calling Continental Airlines trying to learn what had happened. The story of the lost rod tube is this; as I’m boarding the plane the same desk clerk who had just checked us in, and all our bags to Marsh Harbor Bahamas says, ‘I can gate check that for you’ like she’s trying to help us. Now ‘gate check’ to me means you pick up your bag when you get off the plane right at the door. With all the wheel chairs and strollers etc. But what the clerk does, the same one that just checked us in to the Bahamas is puts a Oaxaca Mexico Bag Tag on my bag and sends it on the plane. So most of my luggage is on the right track but the rods are going to central Mexico, come on! also the clerk doesn’t give me a assert ticket, she says, ‘I’ll take care of it for you’. The second Dec Hogan. I felt more confident about my double Spey cast from the last day’s instruction. After a short ship ride early in the morning, Dec put me in a classic steelhead run before the sun hit the water. On my 4th cast, a good one thanks to Dec, the fly swung into the sweet spot of the drift. I felt the tug, so I gave the fish the loop of line hanging from my reel. He now turned, and I struck to the bank side of the river. I could feel the power of the wild steelhead straining against my line. (montanafishingblog.com)

This past Saturday, the kids, community members and mentors that make up the S. A. R. E. P. Youth Fly Fishing Program met with our good friend, Mr. Steve Welk from Whispering Pines Hatchery, to introduce brook trout spawners into Canadaway Creek. We have heard reports passed down through the generations of family members catching brook trout in the stream but brook trout haven’t been found in the stream for close to a century due high water temperature, agriculture, riparian condition, one or more non-native fish species, urbanization and acidic deposition. Brook trout populations have been eliminated or largely reduced during nearly half of their historical habitat in the eastern United States according released assessments by Trout Unlimited and a coalition of state and federal agencies. This place was awesome. Man behind the counter was the nicest man I've ever met that worked at a high end expertise shop. I've become conditioned to being talked down to by anybody stating to be a expert in any high end hobby shop. But not at this place. Super friendly. Super knowledgeable and super useful. Great fly alternatives too. Will go back. Anybody that lives in CDA and fly fishes needs to check this place out. (yelp.com)
Action-wise, I’d call it fast. It’s intended as a ‘switch’ after all, and has a light and fast enough tip to cast overhand. To us ‘switch’ is over. Nobody we know is using a rod for both single handed and two-handed casting. So as a little spey we may have added a little weight to the tip, some inches of length and changed the flex a touch. But, we have tried a bunch of heads on this guys and when lined right it sings. Our favorite is a 225 grain Skagit compact 18′ . This is a bit underlined, and this combo casts more Scandi-like than Skagit. But it still throws a floating or sinking sink tip, poly-leader, and heavy fly. (headhuntersflyshop.com)

It’s a given the 1st thing you’ll notice when you switch from a long 8-weight to a shorter 6-weight is that it’s going to be more comfy, more maneuverable, snappy and light. But I was totally surprised that although the rod is shorter and considerably lighter than an eight weight, it still had lots of power to get the fly where it required to be. By my second or 3rd run, I began stepping up my terminal tackle, finally fishing with a bigger Intruder-type fly on a 15′ Type 6 sink tip. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at the ease with which the technique was performing. (troutsflyfishing.com)
That said, having since buckled down on chinook in quite some drainages from Alaska to BC to virtually anywhere, anytime they re available in Oregon where I now live typing and dreaming of Zoo Bar s tailout snags in high water, I ll say two things to anybody who cares to read this: 1. , don t fish Ktok kings like they re winter steelhead and, 2. Take what you learn on the Ktok, apply it at home if you ve got kings around and you ll be surprised how many winter steelhead rivers turn into spring Chinook rivers come May. The Ktok tutelage will teach you lower 48 Kings on a swung fly are anything but a figment of your imagination, although considerably fewer and much farther between. (deneki.com)
