We have two great fake reefs in the Bundaberg area one off Elliot Heads and one off Woodgate. These regions have loads of inhabitant fish but they’re educated. One of the bycatches are the pelagics that come into these regions on shopping sprees for the big schools of bait hiding out on these reefs. A great example of how these fish are educated is, when on a dive at the Cochrane fake one day I saw a bait land on the bottom next to the reef and some of the smaller fish went out to examine it and head-butted it but wouldn t eat it, and when the berley floated down the smaller fish scurried to the surface to intercept the bait. I think the aircraft that Leod is referring may be a float plane that had a somersault on landing just near the island, although I do not know if this was inside the lagoon or not. This could have been about 10 years ago now, maybe 8, we were anchored there the day before it happened, it was crappy weather. They pretty much stopped using float planes to Musgrave after that, although I guess a plane crash could ruin any business. Its quite possible that it broke into bits in the successive weather and what you found are the remnants.
