Bar none, the Pathfinder is the most stable fishing kayak on the planet. If you may be able to walk to the mailbox, you may be able to stand and cast on this kayak. When the adjustable outriggers are deployed, our test anglers said the kayak feels more stable than many small motorboats. The distinctive outrigger system boasts three positions: the locked-down, super-stable Y position; a center setting for stability with mobility; and completely folded for travel. Fit and finish are top notch. The foldable casting brace eases the transition from seated to standing position, and on-deck storage is plentiful. (kayakfishmag.com)
With a maximum capacity of 450 lbs and interior and external storage, you may be able to bring all your gear tackle, decoys, dive or photography for a full day on the water. This kayak comes standard with inserts for an optional motor mount and a custom intended recess for your battery case, making the transition from paddling to motoring seamless. At 14 feet 2 inches in length, this ship features maximum performance for longer paddling trips. The added freeboard and upswept bow make this ship dry in open water lake and sea conditions. You may be able to add the optional Elite Angler Seat, the most comfy kayak seat on the market, for extra all-day comfort. (kayakfishingmagazine.net)
I have been a fly fishing nut for many years but have only recently begun saltwater fly fishing. It is lots different than freshwater but I have been having a blast going after Redfish. It is about time I could say as I live in Charleston, SC and there’s great red fish fishing around here. Now I’m using a guide but soon I’m going to have to either find places I can get to on foot not impossible or go with a Kayak. I don t have interest in a flats ship or anything else like that. While in a local fishing shop the salesman showed me pics of a Freedom Hawk. It looked interesting and I have been reading as much as possible plus looking at videos on You Tube. (stripersonline.com)
So you ve towed your kayak to a fishy place, only to realize you ve got a couple hundred yards to carry it from car to water s edge. With a light yak, this may be a chore and on occasion a dangerous one . Wheeled carts may help. Hobie makes three excellent plug-in carts for its yaks MSRPs $96 to $190, while merchant L. L. Bean offers the All-Terrain ship Cart pictured, which features big, tough wheels able of transporting a ship over the roughest ground, and costs $130. (sportfishingmag.com)
I have the Hawk 14 not the Pathfinder. Love mine but could rather have the Pathfinder. Mine is slow in the water and tracks like a tractor. I'm sure the pathfinder is better with the new nose that's more kayak like. They’re stable. I stand in mine floating fast power generation flow release. Also the weight is much better for the Pathfinder. I need the better bow form for the rough water I fish in. (reddit.com)
Kayaks are classified by their use. There are eight main classifications: polo, slalom, whitewater, surf, touring/expedition, light touring/day tripping, sprint/racing and general recreation. From these main classifications stem many sub-classes. As an example, a fishing kayak is simply a general-recreation kayak equipped with accessories that make it easier from which to fish. A creek kayak is some kind of whitewater kayak, intended to manage narrow gully type rivers and falls. Also inside these classifications are many levels of performance which more separate the individual models. In other words, not all touring kayaks handle the same. (anglingtrade.com)

Hoover believes today s fishing kayaks have benefits over bigger boats, also to the big difference in price. Access, transportation, maintenance, and storage are easier with a kayak, he says. The only drawback is reduced range. But if you do your homework, that s rarely a limitation. It forces you to do more research and scouting and preparation before you head to the water. That gets you more dialed in to possible fish places. He adds that the restricted range of a kayak also makes him fish regions more gradually and completely. (in-fisherman.com)
Forty years afterward, modern sporting kayaks share the same basic plan, minus the big rear hatch that has morphed into the indispensible open-exceeded storage well. Other changes were incremental, like decks intended to accommodate an ever-rising range of equipment: rod holders, fishfinders, GPS and the like. The hulls themselves grew wider for better cargo capacity and increased stability for battling big fish, or standing tall to hunt fish by sight. Modern fishing kayak design has come so far, manufacturers now offer models suited to virtually any water, if that s the infinite skinny acreage of the flats or tumultuous Big Blue. (canoekayak.com)
