Founded in 1999, Michigan-Sportsman. Com started as a group of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999 we started our 1st message board. After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in afterward years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many have made long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. (michigan-sportsman.com)
Some day really could like to see and have is a GPS ran with a satellite or Google Earth type real map. There have been so many times that I have been 4 wheeling, Dual Sport riding or Snowmobiling out in the center of no where with a GPS that tells where I’m but shows up as being in the center of a big green blob back ground. I know some GPS’s have better or newer back ground maps, however it sure could be nice to see what is around the area for real and not just a little old logging road line on the map. Something that you could also switch from season background to see the same area in summer, fall or winter could be great also. (hotspotoutdoors.com)
By the end of testing we did but learn that while the setup of the DLX is remarkably easy – it does have it is limitations… and those come by way of wind. Mother nature may be nasty and when the winds whip up above 20 to 25 mph you will want to keep this shanty off the ice. Frabill’s setup for the DLX is quite remarkable, however it counts Exclusively on the weight of the fishermen to keep the shanty in place throughout windy conditions. Throughout a testing session two weeks ago we reached the limitations of what the Ambush DLX can handle. In sustained winds of 23 mph with gusts of up to 40 mph we set out to the lake for a morning of fishing, however were forced to turn right back around when we were unable to setup the DLX. The stove is set up and lit and a port-a-potty is in place. Now lets see what do we use for bait. We can attempt bacon, worms if available. I use to fill a 5 gallon can with earth and gather big earth worms from the fall plowing of the fields. I could plant the worms in the can and mix rolled oats in with them for their food. This gave me an early supply of new worms 1st thing in the early trout season. Do not let them freeze. You could use store bought minnows. I used meat from new road kill, or from my trap line, like coyote. Just cut a hind leg of and freeze it and cut bait as you need it. (fishing-hook-line-and-sinker.com)
I owned one for some number of years and really enjoyed it; but, I could never buy one again. The suitcase design is very hard to drag. When dragging it on the snow it digs into the snow, then a pile of snow is over the folded shack, which makes it that more hard to pull. The carpeted floor soaks up lots of water, which again makes if that more hard to drag, then one needs to dry out the carpet in a warm dry place. (bigfishtackle.mobi)
I have the Keanai 2. 5 seasons old, not worth the cost IMHO. The tub isn’t made for pulling in any snow with the angle of the approach and the tarp is chincey. The tarp is loosing its backing wherever there’s a fold. From my understanding this was an issue with clam, if it had been remedied I do not know. I got $100 of on the house when I bought it new and still feel that was over priced after using it for some seasons now. Clam merchandise could not be on the top of my list. (in-depthoutdoors.com)
It should go without saying, however safety is important when you are ice fishing. Ice may be unpredictable, so it is best that you know the body of water that you will be fishing. Next, you will want to know how thick the ice is and how much the ice can support at each thickness. Overall, three inches will hold a person up, eight inches will carry a snowmobile, and you will want a hard sixteen inches before you pull up in your pickup. Test the ice about every twenty feet to be sure that the ice has not thinned out. This early in the year ice is discrepant. They are just general terms and you will want to factor in more info about your current conditions before you venture out on the ice, keep a close eye on the weather. (sportsmanswarehouse.com)
With the Engel Live Bait Cooler with Aerator BC 30, your minnows, shrimp or another live bait will generally be prepared for action, thanks to the powerful 2X2 Air Pump and insulated cooler box. The 2-speed air pump keeps the water completely aerated and the insulated cooler shields costly bait from extreme temperatures, if you’re fishing in the dog days of summer or out on the ice in January. The 2-speed Engel 2X2 Air Pump runs strong on two 2 D-Cell batteries not included . Run on quick when your cooler is full of bait. Turn the pump down and conserve battery power afterward in the day. The starting point is doing map work of the waters you intend to fish. Hot spots listed on our map are without a question the 1st place to start with not only their in depth descriptions of the waters but also the complete documentary telling you about the complete ‘waterworld’ you’re about to fish. Challenging as it may seem map preparation will change your fishing and put you into pretty good spots and let you to good tune presentations as your fishing continues. At Wawang Lake Resort we have a smart idea of where walleye will be at any given time during the fishing season through years of collecting data, so we supply a in depth map to our guests upon arrival.
