The river descends over waterfalls in Franconia Notch, as well as The Basin, passes cascades in North Woodstock, and drops over Livermore Falls north of Plymouth. The remainder of the northern Pemi, from Lincoln to Ashland, is a braided river that passes over copious gravel bars and attracts many boaters and fishermen. Below Ashland, the river is impounded by the Ayers Island Dam, a hydroelectric building, for over five miles. A short stretch of heavy whitewater is found below the dam, before the river reaches the impoundment zone for the Franklin Falls flood control reservoir. The river crosses one extra hydroelectric dam below Franklin Falls before joining the Winnipesaukee River in the center of Franklin. (anglerweb.com)
"I can only say that my brother and I, who have done some guided fishing in the past, have never experienced guides who ‘put themselves out’ to the degree that you Gerry and Jim do for your clients. The effort you both put into us with a satisfying fishing outing is unparalleled in our experience. But we are not just giving you an ‘A for effort. ‘ The wild brook trout fishing you put us onto was quite simply, and without exaggeration, one of the most unprecedented fishing experiences I have ever had. And I include my fly-fishing out West also in that comparison. " . (nhriversguide.com)
Few things are as sacred among New England trout fishermen as their favorite stretch of moving water. Lakes and ponds surely have their following of dedicated fans, however in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, there’s no doubt rivers and streams have generally had the more irresistible attraction. Possibly it’s the feel of water against the legs, the possibilities of trout holding in a deep hole or eddy, or the sound of water gurgling over gravel and stone. Whatever the personal reason for the attraction, part of the equation is the fact some of the finest trout streams to be found anywhere are right here in northern New England. (gameandfishmag.com)
That area used to be my home water, back in the 90’s. One of my favorite hike-in fishing trips was into the East Branch and Fraconia Branch of the Pemigewasset River. There was a big parking area off of the Kancamagus Hwy about 5 miles from the town of Lincoln. I used to park there and hike up the trail for some to some number of hours and fished for the native brookies. They stocked keeper size brookies near the parking area, however not upstream of it. So, most of the fish I caught were 3" to 10", with sporadic surprises of "trophy" natives in the 12" to 14" range. (stripersonline.com)

I bought the Cascade Tenkara rod for my son last year it’s the smallest of the rods they make . We had a blast fishing in VT and taking it on hikes in the Catskills. It’s foolproof! My son, who just turned 8, accidentally put it away incorrectly by telescoping it back wrong. He was so upset and I was 1st thinking this rod was now broken . But, by just unscrewing the base of the handle, I was easily able to pull the sections out and fix it easily. In 5 minutes, we were back to fishing. It comes with a cool carrying case. It’s a great addition for the most stingiest ULer. You’re surely not going to hook a river monster with this setup and I have had my tippet break with some bigger fish, however I have hooked a 6-10in fish with the rigs — and I’m not a fisherman by any stretch of the imagination. Some pool in gin clear water gave up five rainbows and a salmon in a hour or less. The kind of time where you move on just for something more challenging and something different. So its beside some white water and riffles letting a streamer run with the current into another pool head and strip it back. At that 1st turn of the wrist, bang! Another feisty rainbow hits it hard and the athlete of the river aided by a strong current makes me think about knots and hook wire as I get him on the reel and give him some room. The five x holds and the knots are good so after some dancing and splash, he’s coaxed to net and release. (woodlandclearing.wordpress.com)

The 1st big drop is about 1/4 mile downstream with a medium size sidesurfing hole Rodeo Hole it isn’t for novices to play in. Run right now. After the 1st few small class I-II rapids from the put-in, the river widens and slows down. You’ll notice a ledge protruding from the left bank Wourthen’s Rock forcing the river to the right. Get out and scout on these ledges or run to the far entitlement to avoid "Rodeo Hole". The fast continues for about 1/5 of a mile with waves and turbulance and some rocks to avoid. Just downstream from the center of the fast you’ll notice the river takes a slight jog to the left between another set of ledges, eddy out river left below the ledges to catch a nice surfing wave. Most of the flies I tie and fish are sizes 14 and 16. The streams I fish contain wild trout both browns and our native char the brook trout. In the small streams the insects are meager, with few hatches so the trout don’t get fussy. When a meal comes along though it may seem a bit big they don’t hesitate for a second in taking it. I could most likely fish an complete year on just 4 patterns, and most could be size 14. (smallstreamreflections.blogspot.com)
