Fly fishing instruction is available at any time throughout the day.  We may use a range of fly fishing methods to fish for the redsides, as well as dry fly, nymph, and streamer fishing.  There are some great hatches each season that make for thrilling dry fly fishing opportunities.  The salmonfly hatch happens in May and June, and caddis fly hatches keep the trout feeding on the surface all summer long.  Many of the trout we cast to are visibly feeding near the bank.  Trout on this part of the Deschutes average 14+ inches long and each day we have opportunities at fish in the 16+ inch range. Our guide job to get us set up and in a place where we could catch fish. He helped my niece and brother-in-law, who never flyfished before, get casting and comfy in the water. The Upper Deschutes originates West of Bend in the Cascade Mountains. It begins it is journey from the spring fed waters of Little Lava Lake and goes South to Crane Prairie Reservoir. This part of river is the quintessential mountain stream. With Snow limited peaks near by, the river runs through Pine forests and grassy meadows full of wildflowers in the summer. The Upper Deschutes runs clear and cold. Rainbow and Brook Trout also as healthy populations of Mountain Whitefish call this river home. This is great dry fly water. Anglers can find just about all the challenges they could like on the Deschutes, Fall fly fishing only or Spring rivers. Good fishing is available inside an hour on lakes along Cascade Lakes Highway. Licenses can be acquired in the Village, Sunriver Business Park, or at the marina.
