This lovely little book, 1st published in 1910, is filled full of anecdotes and interesting info, not just about fly-fishing, however also about the scenery in, and history of, Yellowstone Park. This new edition was updated to a modern book format and is profusely illustrated with the original black and white photographs. Klahowya a Chinook general greeting was the pseudonym of author Orange Perry Barnes, who says in his introduction: This little writing has to do with the streams and the trout therein of that part of our country extending southward from the southern boundary of Montana to the Teton mountains, and eastward from the eastern boundary of Idaho to the Absaroka range. The many small lakes at Sawhill Ponds supply a large range of fishing experiences for bass, sunfish, bluegill and carp. As one of the two rivers that form the Madison, the lower sections of the Gibbon River are recognized for its sizeable trout. The River begins at Grebe Lake and goes a short distance into Wolf Lake. These sections are a bit more challenging to access, however the two mile or so hike pays off when you hook a rare grayling. Rio Pe asco on Private Land – The Pe asco is a spring creek with nine miles of trout water teeming with wild browns and rainbows along NM 82 east of Cloudcroft. Some springs help maintain a water temperature of 52-60 degrees year round. Most of the wild browns and rainbows average 10-14 inches with realistic odds of trout reaching 20 inches. The constant water temperatures and tremendous aquatic bug population let the trout to grow year round. The complete length of the Pe asco is privately owned. You may be able to hire a guide and he’ll quickly drive you to a spot where with assurance, you may be able to find the big ones increasing out of the pool. But if you have a bit more time, I invite you to think like a fish and go your way.
