The major thing in catching kokanee is to find schools and fish at the correct depth. By May or early June, kokanee action picks up with fish suspended at 25 to 30 feet over deep, open water. As the summer progresses, kokanee move deeper, and by August they can be from 60 to 70 feet deep. A depth finder is invaluable for locating fish; then, either a lead-core line or a downrigger is needed for trolling lures through the schools you find. Without a depth finder, work deeper intervals till you find fish. Kokanee hold for long periods of time, if you catch one, it pays to make some number of more passes through the same area. There’s typically where the northern end at least is covered in ice. So, a well-liked winter activity is ice fishing. The bigger lake trout are targeted off in the deeper water using vertical jigging methods, and the smaller trout and kokanee will be found in shallower water using smaller jigs and baits. It’s becoming well-liked to fish for the burbot through the ice at night time. This may sound crazy, however come out to Flaming Gorge in the dead of winter, in the center of the night and it seems like a whole bunch of small towns lit up by lanterns & head lamps up and down the reservoir. The 1st good slam-hit turned out to be a 25-pound lake trout that put up a tremendous fight. I d get a little on him, and he d take lots back in return. Once succumbing to the net, we knew we had a good one. Oh, there are much larger lakers in the Gorge; 40-pounders and over. But this was a good start for us. We were instructed to keep out lures inside a couple of inches of the bottom, and hits and swats kept coming. Some attracting jigging action had those lakers diving to the bottom to check out our offering. We could see all this on a Lowrance fish finder, and it was quite thrilling. (standard.net)

In June our kokanee are concentrated in the river channel. That’s where our coldest water is. As the summer goes on these fish are going to go into their pre-spawn and move up on structure. I’d say pre-spawn will start the 1st of July, then they’ll be tougher to catch. Now, In the meantime, they’re biting. We’re fishing in 70-90 feet of water and our bigger fish are starting to move toward structure, especially on the east side where the contour goes from 70 to 80. (pautzke.com)
Burbots are native to Wyoming, however on the reverse side of the Divide. It wouldn t have been hard at all, maybe a 15 to 30 minute drive, Mosely says. Burbots may have been caught on one side of the Divide and released into the Green River drainage. We really believe there was more than one release because they showed up in a couple of different tributaries around the same time. (saltlakemagazine.com)
