Though I was unsuccessful on this trip I will share what has worked for me in the past. I have had luck fishing tall grass flooded in the spring on sunny days when the shadows from the fish may be seen on the bottom. Finding clear water that you may see through makes a big difference. Avoid windy days and big wakes from passing boats. Being able to fish from a watercraft that lets you to stand and see the fish is the biggest advantage. I have had them hit or chase big poppers, mice patterns, and big streamers. I typically fish with a sink tip or a floating line but coming prepared to hit every depth could be preemptive. From Morgan up to Echo Reservoir, the water is running high and off-color. The fishing was just in this part and bait looks to be working the best. Fly anglers are to get some fish on streamer and worm patterns. All cutthroat trout, or trout with cutthroat markings, must be now released from the Great Salt Lake to Echo Reservoir dam. T’was one of those surreal times when nothing could get better. The smooth water showed the beasts easily like looking through green glass. I wanted to scream just because I was there… witnessing the ‘apexness’ of an unbelievable predator. Over and over, hundreds of baitfish blew up on the surface in near slow motion as giant silver tigers crashed through their small helpless bodies… Unreal. I thought to myself, ‘How do we compete with the real thing?’ Then, out of nowhere, a big shadow moved in to examine my over-sized streamer… Game time. (outsmartingfish.com)
