Fishing Report Little Camas Reservoir

Camas Reservoir is only about 23 miles east on ID 20, then 2 miles north on Forest Road 160. It has an elevation of about 5, 000 and is open to many camping spots around the reservoir. It has some number of restrooms at the ship ramp also as along the road going into the reservoir. It’s well stocked by the Idaho Fish and Game. Fishing at Little Camas is open from May through October. Because the water levels drop afterward in the summer and the risk for fish to die, the catch bound is lifted from August 20th through November 30th. Yakima River From Paul A. Hoffarth, District 4 Fish Biologist, WA Dept. Of Fish & Wildlife, Pasco WA – It was another good week of fishing in the lower Yakima River this past week. WDFW staff interviewed 192 anglers with 85 adult chinook and 1 jack. an approximated 888 anglers fished for salmon in the Yakima River harvesting 411 adult fall chinook and 5 jacks. Anglers averaged 6. 3 hours of fishing per chinook. This season, 1, 427 adult chinook, 54 jacks, and 9 coho have been harvested from 4, 537 angler trips. (seattletimes.com)

Great Lake lake trout also as browns along the shorelines. Pike in Williams Fork are hitting in the afternoon, attempt baits that move slow and fish where ever the wind is blowing into a shallow area. Kokanee at Wolford are shallow, they may be 2-5 feet deep over 80 feet of water. Assorted spoons are working well. Rainbows are cruising the shorelines, small tubes and spoons are a great bet. Located about 3 miles south of Fairfield, Mormon Reservoir is a hidden gem not known to majority of people in Idaho except Camas County locals . Most of the time you will not see another person when you head to this well-liked ice fishing spot. At 2400 acres, its no small deal either. to get there in the winter may be difficult since you will most likely need a snowmobile. Throughout spring spawning runs, walleye stack up in headwater streams and below dams and are easy prey for anglers-in-the-know. Most of the famous walleye holes during the country are these types of waters. After spawning, walleye return to the major lake or river, staying in the shallows during the spring and early summer till the waters begin to warm, then moving to back to deeper, cooler water throughout the day, returning to the shallows to feed at dusk. Throughout winter, it’s usually thought that walleye hold up in deep waters till the spawning urge strikes again, however little is really recognized about the winter behavior of this fish. And I can t find my passport, which means I have most likely violated a Federal law. As the result of a threatened lawsuit against Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife by the Wild Steelhead Conservancy WSC, WDFW has agreed to release only 180, 000 of the 900, 000 hatchery steelhead on hand all into the Skykomish River. Consequently, WDFW must release the left over 722, 000 fish into waters that don t connect to Puget Sound. That may explain pervasive rumors that a tanker truck released thousands of 6-inch steelhead into Sprague Lake recently. (spokesman.com)

This is a good trout and warmwater fishing destination less than a half hour southeast of Winston and inside a reasonable drive of Roseburg, Myrtle Creek or Myrtle Point. There’s bank and ship access to this 250-acre reservoir off Berry Creek Road south of Highway 42.
