The North parish of Linton, Peeblesshire, at Boarstone and Easter Cairnhill, and, after a brief course through barren moorland it’s joined by the Carlops Burn and some other small tributaries. It proceeds in a north-easterly direction through the parishes of Penicuik, Lasswade, Glencorse, Cockpen, and Dalkeith. There are many dams on the North Esk which prevent fish migration upstream of Dalkeith Palace. They are the legacy of a once thriving paper manufacturing business. (fishforth.co.uk)
Penicuik once called the paper making town is not a paper making town and river is left to do what it does, with a little help it may bring visitors to the area not only to fish, however use the walkways and local services breathing some new life into the town. An approach was made to the local Penicuik District Coucil who are in favour of behind this idea. With the help of the local tackle shop Fishers and some members of the local community this may be achived with the land holders permission to cut back some trees and under growth to make access to the river, enabling access to fish. 2012: Having enjoyed about 1 and a half seasons of fishing and also a couple of winters both at fisheries but also out for the Grayling on the rivers I love Grayling fishing on the fly I was looking forward to the new season with loads of ideas of places to fish. I awoke one morning in late March although with a somewhat inflexible center finger on my right hand. Firstly I although maybe I had hurt it although cou d not make sure, maybe a bit overuse of a mouse with a PC, or maybe a bit wear and tear. It got steadily worse over 4 weeks, then I started noticing I was to get sore feet too- particularly my right one. (theunfamousfly.co.uk)
, which spread its load aromatically around the shingle; the spit grew during the 1950s. To the east of the river lay mud flats behind a mainly ineffective wartime breakwater. The gas works sat to the east of the river mouth and there was a tip at Levenhall. The Lothians’ coal mining business discharged its water into the North Esk and South Esk but in the period of nationalisation post 1947 the quality was controlled by statute enforced by the Forth River Board. But, no such control may be placed on the old disused mines where greatly polluted water overflowed at many points into the rivers and streams adding largely to the general pollution of the Esk at Musselburgh. The coastal town of Musselburgh is situated on both sides of the River Esk in East Lothian. Fisherrow is the conventional name for the settlement on the west side of the river, whose inhabitants worked in the fishing and related industries. By the late 1960s the local fishing business went into decline and disappeared, with the local paper and wire mills and coal mining at Monktonhall. Musselburgh people now find work with the local council, at three small industrial estates, in local shops, hotels and restaurants and some travel the short distance to Edinburgh. Musselburgh is famous for its racecourse and its golf course, the latter believed to be the oldest in the world. (scottishcommunityalliance.org.uk)

. It’s regretable that the time required to keep this web site at the standard wanted is not available to me. The choice to bring this web site to an end wasn’t an easy one, lots of effort and time went into creating it, and I could like to thank everyone who has contributed with their sightings, photos, ideas and opinions, without them none of it could have been worth while. A special thanks to Mike Hodgkin who has gave up his time to run Birding Lothian when I have gone off in search of birds. The last web site update will be on 31/12/15, then dissappear off our screens sometime in early January, be sure you get at last look at those past rares. (birdinglothian.co.uk)
The promenade begins at the harbour and doesn’t take long to walk along it, ten to fifteen minutes at a slow rate, however there are some interesting things to see. There’s a sail shelter that you can not miss as there’s a sail which makes it appear like a small sail ship, or possibly a single man fishing ship from years back. You’ll also see a time capsule which is made of concrete where the local schools each placed something inside. There’s a plaque stating that the capsule should be opened in the center of the 21st century. This is all part of the Promenade Millennium Garden which opened in 2000. (virtualtourist.com)
Myself and my brother had a day off and some time to kill so decided to do this cache. Thank goodness we had the time! What a long but interesting cache : loved the Kirk at the end, some great gravestones!! last place was a bit hard to get to but managed it easily enough. Unfortunately there was a dead bird of prey a buzzard I think close which could not be helped. Tftc$. (geocaching.com)
The major talking point in the property market in early 2016 was the imminent introduction of a 3 tax surcharge on properties that are bought as second homes or purchase-to-let investments. The intention of this levy is to deter investors so leave the door open for 1st-time purchasers to get onto the property market. The announcement of first April 2016 as the start date of the.
