One little good had about 8 good sized reddies coming up behind the tempt, however wouldnt take. Tried every tempt in my box but to no avail. Thought time to switch plans. Got my little landing net and started to net some of the gambusia minnows swimming abouts. Chucked one of them on a tiny hook under a float and sent that out into the snag where the reddies were holed up. Instant success got one! Then let my girlfriend have a go. Repeated what i did and again instantly on. Her 1st freshwater fish! Was really cool watching this live gambusia about 3cm long under a float being chased around by about 6 good sized reddies, then to get smashed. (fishwrecked.com)
One last point; as much as we like reddies, if you do catch one don’t return it to the water despite of size. If you don’t plan to keep them leave them on the bank for the local Nannup Tigers to clean up. When you buy your freshwater fishing license obliged to fish it’ll tell you this anyway. They’re pests and most trout fry don’t reach legal size caused by the Redfin than any other single because. They also eat lots of baby Marron and they breed and grow fast enough to replace stock so don’t worry, they wont die out. (Visit the site)
Trout inhabit Range jarrah forest where rivers and brooks scythe through granite escarpment down to the coastal plain. Unfortunately nearly all of these systems are now dammed and require a decent release of water for good fishing to happen. More south trout rivers are for the most part concealed by concentrated karri forest and typically overgrown with blackberries, however this is where WA’s biggest fish lurk attempting to live out their life unmolested by human anglers and the odd shag . There is little opportunity to wade these southern log-choked rivers and brooks without sinking knee-deep in mud and the vegetation is nearly impregnable, so it may be hard finding a good run or stretch of fish-holding water. The original plan to set on the side land in the Murray River valley as a reserve was for an area of 94, 000 ha. As is frequently the case in these matters, commercial interests complained that this could bound their capability to use the area and the size of the proposed reserve was reduced to 54, 000 ha. It was formally declared a reserve in 1984. The reserve was named in honour of C. E Lane Poole, Western Australia’s 1st Conservator of Forests. Lane Poole was one of the 1st to realise the importance of conservation of natural resources and it’s mainly thanks to his efforts that we have as much forest to take pleasure in today. Railway in 1893 more extended the area. Nearly now after farming commenced, settlers realised that the soils bordering the lower reaches of the river suffered badly from yearly flooding caused by a low fall between the base of the scarp and the estuary, a distance of about 40 km. The problem was exacerbated by broad clearing of trees in the foothills which could have otherwise helped in removing the extra water. Settlers portrayed a giant wetland with travel impossible for some number of months yearly. (en.wikipedia.org)

This picturesque camping area is on the bank of the Murray River near Christmas Creek – hence the name. The camping regions are just a couple of clearings next to the river, each on different levels, and with their own access track. The upper level is okay for 2WD and camper-trailers, as long as the road is not wet and muddy. The lower level has steep access, so is only suited for tents and 4WD access. The river forms a large expanse of calm water next to the lower camping area, before tumbling down little rapids to form a faster moving and narrower part of water below the other camping sites.
