Hey Alan, that the fact that a fishing knot is thin or not should dictate which one to use… most knots go through guides well. And before doing the different knot strength analysis experiments, I could have totally agreed with the last comment about properly tied good knots being unbreakable. But, I was shocked to notice that in the 100 times that I tied two knots on the same line and pulled till something broke, never once did the ‘line break’ as we all proclaim when losing a fish or to get snagged on the bottom … every single break occurred inside a knot most of the time at the top of the 1st turn in the knot so there was not the curly rear at the end to indicate a ‘knot failure’ . I hope you enjoyed that part, because we're pushing the accelerator to the floor and moving ahead at full speed! Covered in this part will be: Burnishing Dying Sealing Riveting Stitching Burnishing Burnishing is when you smooth out the edges of your leather, just. There. (tag.wonderhowto.com)
One thing be aware of, if you are not using the Palomar fishing knot below, you have to start. The International Game Fish affiliation regards it as the strongest knot recognized for securing line to hooks, spins, and fake lures. It is simple and will maintain more line strength than other fishing knots. We nearly entirely use Palomar knots when attaching any tempt to fishing line, mono or fluorocarbon leaders, and braid. One tip to enhance the Palomar knot – wet the knot with some water or saliva before cinching it tight, this will improve knot strength. (fishing-nc.com)
Is a personal preference. You read articles like this one to help make up your mind, however it s you that makes the choice on what line to use. SO the next time you plan to replace your old line, maybe you’ll take some of these info to heart. Attempt my favorite two knots, and purchase name-brand line. If you don t recognize the brand, chances are you to get some inferior quality line. Oh and made in America? Unfortunately 99 of all of our fishing line comes from someplace other than America. Used for joining lines together. I use this knot when put a top shot on my reels. Typically it’s only the 1st 100m of line on your reel that cops most of the work so instead of replacing all the line I simply strip off the well worn stuff, attach new line to what’s left on the spool using the Double Grinner and wind the new stuff on. With some of the better braids being quite costly it’s cost efficient. I have seen this knot come off the reel on lots of instances while fighting fish and have never been worried about it letting go. Also a good knot for making up tapered fly fishing leaders. What they don t realize is that when you tie it properly with the figure eight form perfectly closed down all the way with no loose ends, the line may be as much as 40 stronger. For example 12lb Krystonite will break at 14lb with a properly tied Palomar but if tied wrong could break as low as 9lb. All of these knots have been tried tested and reliable by many experienced anglers. Use them with complete confidence for they’ll not let you down. After tying your knot examine it carefully. Should you be in any doubt scrap it and start again. For the sake of a minute s work why risk losing the fish of a lifetime when it can be your only chance. (kryston.com)
Learning to tie fishing knots is a basic 1st step for any aspiring angler. If you’re joining different lines or tying the backing to the reel, it is important to find out the right knot for the kind of fishing you have in mind. By selecting the most proper knot and tying it well, you may be able to best maintain the strength of whatever kind of fishing line you can be using. Also to their strength, knots differ in their easy tying and their usefulness. One knot can be ideal for a specific handling but ill-suited to another application. Many online resources offer advice on the best methods to tie each kind of knot. (mysterytacklebox.com)
The knot may be made by tying the mono around the looped length of braid, or it may be done the other way around, with the braid being wrapped around the looped length of mono to form the knot. Either procedure is perfectly good but the Mackellow preference is to do the latter and make the knot in the braid. My reason for this is simply that the braid has by far the thinner diameter, and bunches into a smaller, neater knot. The smaller braid knot passes cleanly through small line guides, whereas the alternative bulkier mono knot is prone to snagging and jamming in rod rings. (planetseafishing.com)
