I STILL off the wall. It was a black night about 20 years back, when my mate Andrew and I were on our pushbikes riding around fishing the wharves around Forster Tuncurry for bream and flathead or whatever else was around. We stopped off under the lights at the fish co-op and after some throws with no results we thought we could move on up to the breakwall. As I wound my bait in, a just legal chopper tailor grabbed my hook. I was about to throw it back when a light clicked in my brain. I should the keep the tailor alive and take him up the wall with us. With rods over our shoulders and water splashing all over my clothes and bike out of my can we rode up the wall in the black. (fishingworld.com.au)
: The Australian jewfish or mulloway is a big predator found inshore around rocky shores and in estuaries. They’re also found on offshore reefs and like all members of the family, jewfish love rocks and ledges, culverts, pipes, bridge pilings and shipwrecks as possible homes. On rocky shores the fish are frequently found in caves and gullies particularly under white water. The fish rest in these places throughout the day and hunt at night. (dailytelegraph.com.au)

Trout fishermen have stated a mixture of brown trout and rainbow trout in the streams at Barrington Tops. Those who are prepared to hike to regions that aren’t readily available will have the most success. Fishing with baits like worms and grubs will be fruitful, while lures like celta s and rapala CD5 in brown trout and rainbow trout imitation patterns will typically do the trick. Autumn is a good time of year to attempt your trout fishing expertise. (coalfacemagazine.com.au)
Bluewater Tackle World manager Cam Trowbridge was treated to some exceptional fishing at Shark Bay recently by the accommodating staff and crew at Mac Attack Fishing Charters. Cam and his mates spent some days up to their armpits in many varieties of species on tempt and fly. As indicated by Cam, everything they touched turned to Gold as the skipper held his word place after place putting them on the money every time. Among the highlights were mackerel on fly and stickbaits and mulloway in 5-10m of water. While only small the mulloway were in plague proportions. Previous to their arrival fish up to 36kg were landed! many other species were landed throughout their time on the water as well as blue bone and rankin cod. (getfishing.com.au)
Today will see another advisory board meeting held at Port Stephens hosted by the Port Stephens Marine Parks Authority. The out come of this meeting will most probably be the development of what may well be close to the draft zoning plan for the 97000 hectare marine park. This draft plan will most probably include 20-30 sanctuary zones no access with the exemption to scuba divers and is projected to be released by mid May 2006 with a 3 month public feedback period to follow. Now we need to understand some facts that are relevant. (fishermanswarehouse.com.au)
Don’t try to go between Moon Island and Swansea Heads, as some vessels have been sunk trying to do so. Keep Moon Island at least 200 metres to port, as a rock counter extends to the east and waves break on the north east corner of Moon Island in calm conditions. Keep a lookout for the leads inside the heads blue diamonds . Once you have the leads lined up, make your way in. Roughly 50-100m past the port marker, look south into the trees halfway up the hill to find the 2 white diamond crossover leads. Head to starboard keeping the next port marker to port. The average depth in the entrance, as well as the coal seam where the 1st port marker is, is roughly 2. (deckee.com)
Dory were taken right during the temperate water period from the different reefs and wrecks of the harbour. The mass of baitfish present in the harbour this season was unprecedented and could have been part of what attracted the dory in. I have got a hypothesis although that there was a cold undercurrent present off most of the east coast this season. It could explain why we did not see any blue water in the harbour the constant rain did not help either, why the common summer species were so lethargic and why winter species were in the harbour Although the surface temp was usually up around the 22 deg mark. The dramatic rock forms at Wybung Head are the product of years of jolting, warping, wearing away and ruptures of a surface made in part by the sedimentation deposited by a river that ran from the mountains in the west and which had its estuary at this place. The Palms Picnic Area and an excellent loop track through a part of littoral rainforest and open eucalypt forest are ideal family recreational places. The road also leads to Frazer Beach, well recognized for its surfing and fishing. There’s a walking track north to tiny Timber Beach on the other side of Bongon Head. (centralcoastaustralia.com.au)
Our 1st stop was Pittwater near Barrenjoey Head where we fished for squid to use as bait. Pelting rain was coming north along Pittwater in squalls and the wind was blowing the ship along too fast for the squid jigs to work properly. We gave it away and headed for Patonga in Brisk Bay, where Colin said we may be able to catch squid out of the wind. What he didn’t say was that Patonga comprises a pub and a fish and chip shop, both welcome sights in these conditions. (exploreaustralia.net.au)
