Highwoods where is like that. Mainly fished by kids drinking cans of Stella. One common I pulled out had its barbules missing. I also saw kids landing carp and not using unhooking mats. An easy lake to fish but I surely felt sorry about the poor carp in there. A better-run day ticket is A12 lakes where he DOES watch his fish and has rigorous rules which he DOES enforce. In Gatlinburg you are allowed to fish in many of the city’s stocked waters as well as West Prong of the Little Pigeon River, LeConte Creek, Roaring Fork Creek and Dudley Creek. There are two chosen kids’s fishing regions which are heavily stocked with trout. They are located at North Gatlinburg Park, at the northern Parkway entrance to the city, and Mynatt Park off Historic Nature Trail. Both of these sites are marked with signs which point to the boundaries of the chosen regions. By the way, no fishing of any kind is allowed in Gatlinburg on Thursdays; this is the day that the city stocks its waters with trout. (jacksonmountainhomes.com)
Cross the #40 highway and find the trailhead beside Lantern Creek. Follow the trail as it gradually ascends through an Aspen and Spruce forest. At roughly 3kms the trail turns steep and loose for another 100ms till you reach a lookout with views towards Picklejar Creek below. Continue on the trail a short distance before rounding a jagged rock face. Here the trail forks to your right towards Lineham Ridge. Keep going straight through jagged rock and some number of big boulders as Picklejar Lake comes into view straight ahead. Hike down to Picklejar Creek and the 1st lake. While standing at the lakes shore you may be able to see Cutthroat Trout swimming along it is edge. (albertawow.com)
Serendipitously happen on my bumbling vision quest was spotting the jagged, igneous, glacier-carved, 11, 000-foot high Crazy Mountains looming and changing phantasmagorically above the rolling prairie northeast of Livingston. I was so mesmerized and drawn to this magnet that I now changed my plans to ride straight to the Gallatin. I exited the highway and — in spite of no in depth maps — wound past huge ranches and along Big Timber Creek to a trailhead, hoisted my pack and hiked way up to Granite Lake, arriving just before black. I didn’t annoy erecting my tent and was punished for that by a rodent who pilfered my socks in the center of the night. (bigskyjournal.com)
