We managed to hold onto a decent amount of ice through last week’s warmup. Lakes lost some inches, and edges softened; but people were fishing all weekend on Hamilton, Beechwood, and Hills Creek. This week’s cold weather will assist improve ice conditions largely. Now, there are thin spots on all of the lakes! it’s fishable; but anglers should still be extra cautious. With this week’s snow, it’s going to hide some of these thin spots also. It’s important to constantly check conditions as anglers move across the lakes! By next weekend, we should be back to much better conditions. (fishandboat.com)
Mark Black Moshannon is great creek. I grew up about 1 mile away and have been on it with a fly rod for 42 years beginning at age 8. Opposite to what I read on these blogs the stream has an excellent holdover rate. Yes it’s different that sinemahoning. The best dry fly you may be able to use on that stream could be a Royalwullf with non white rear in size 10 or 12. You’ll find the trout nearly generally near the edge so when casting to the far side you have to work it in as close as a foot from the edge. There are so many good stretches I would not know which one to pick but a typically good producer is the stretch from the I-80 bridges up to violet ray camp. (centralpaflyfishing.wordpress.com)
From Falls to West Nanticoke. Water levels have been falling but so are temperatures and that’s keeping fish active as they take benefit of the last few weeks before winter temperatures slow them down. Anglers at Harveys Lake both in tournaments and out just for a day’s fishing are having real trouble finding bass and when they’re found boy have they been finicky. Trout fishermen have been having more luck at Harveys and on area streams. Anybody who was at Harveys Lake over the past few days has seen big schools of trout usually Brook cruising the area near the launch. Their presence is caused by stocking of surplus fingerlings from Commission hatcheries and will supply forage for bigger predators also as hopefully growing to bigger fish to be targeted by anglers at some point. I know, 39 more trout streams to add to the list. Well, I m not saying you must them fish all. But if you happen to be traveling to the area, have recently been laid off, are a professional trout bum or are just looking for some new water to fish it s nice to have alternatives! And best of all, the guys at PaFlyFish. Com have done most of the leg work for us and prepared this awesome Google map that gives turn-by-turn directions entitlement to the river. Most likely no other lake in the state has made as many 5-pound largemouth bass over the past 20 years as Lake Arthur. For some number of years, this lake dominated the list of Angler Award Program largemouths. In 1988, Lake Arthur made 57 of the 86 largemouth bass that qualified for an award. That time is past, usually caused by improved largemouth bass fishing elsewhere than to a serious decline in fishing here. Fishing pressure on Lake Arthur is heavy, which does decrease the odds for very big bass like the 8-pound, 9-oz Lake Arthur largemouth that was the second-biggest fish stated in the state in 1981. Silas Sherbondy, 5, of Crescent with a rainbow trout caught at 10 a. M. April 18 at Montour Run. This is Silas’ second season of trout fishing. We woke early and got to the stream before 8 a. M. Silas was looking for a giant golden rainbow. Suited up in his Oakiwear chest waders and vest, and fishing with his Ugly Stick rod and Pflueger reel, he was prepared for a fight. We tried some number of spots, Silas persisted and sooner or later he hooked into this big . (blogs.post-gazette.com)
