I spent Mercury Islands with the Seatrek crew. I joined them at Whitianga by myself, and was presented to the other divers and crew. We steamed out to the islands in MV Enterprise, a spacious and stable vessel. The following days diving was well run, with a deeper dive 1st in the mornings, followed by surface interval spent travelling to the next site, or having hot and plentiful meals. Shallower dives at a range of sites occured for second and afterward dives. Tim discussed what the divers wanted, and mixed up the dives so everyone was happy. I got to chase lots of crayfish! Accomodation is a comfy bunk room, there’s a "chill out" area in the cabin and the deck is under cover. (tripadvisor.com)
Inshore vessels usually have crews of four or five and use up the least amount of time at sea as possible to ensure the fish is landed new. Our fleet consists of one longliner landing snapper into Auckland, one Danish seiner and four trawlers primarily landing into Auckland, and two trawlers landing into Timaru. Privately-owned inshore trawlers and longliners are contracted to fish our quota. They usually fish both East and West Coasts on the North Island and the East Coast of the South Island. We also operate three inshore purse seiner vessels out of Tauranga that target blue and jack mackerel, tuna and kahawai. (sanford.co.nz)
My ears of Emirates’ plans to run continuous flights between Dubai and Auckland. I have taken their services to Dubai via Australia some times and while I never had any complaints, the stopover in either Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney was some a ache. Just when you’d settled in, it’d be time to hop off and get scanned, swabbed and barked at by Australian aviation security officials before sifting around in a dreary transit lounge. Then again, the stopover on the return journey did supply some respite after 14-odd hours in the air. \. (nzherald.co.nz)
Implementation of the Fisheries Kaimoana Customary Fishing rules 1998 in respect of the North Island, and the Fisheries South Island Customary Fishing rules 1999 continued to be hampered, especially in the North Island, by shortcomings in the rules dispute resolution processes. Application of the rules to a given area depends upon t ngata tiaki/kaitiaki being appointed for that area, however the rules don’t supply an efficient system for resolving objections to nominations for appointment. There are now 377 t ngata tiaki/kaitiaki appointments under the Kaimoana rules also as two appointments of committees. (maorilawreview.co.nz)
Mr Simmons said he just can not understand how the Department of Conservation could let any such plan that could endanger the pristine waters of Lake Taupo. I recall being told by officials that the catfish which also is an invasive species could not affect on Lake Taupo and could not thrive. Now they’re seen in big schools of some number of thousand fish. Those same officials are now telling us Silver Carp farming is safe and that the fish can not escape, despite nothing is stopping a human from transporting some some kilometers and letting them go as they did with the catfish. Operated on the Whanganui River till the 1940s in her original form as a tunnel screw riverboat. Lost from her mooring in a flood she was refloated in the late 1960s and rebuilt as a sternwheeled jetboat. Around 1982 she went overland to Lake Okataina and was transformed to the sidepaddle vessel as she’s today. Now operating on the Wairoa River at Tauranga, this 17m, diesel powered vessel with hydraulic drive for the paddlewheels offers scenic cruises and charters. (Visit this page)
On 10 December 1947 the prefix Koninklijke Royal was granted and the Koninklijke Java China Paketvaart Lijnen KJCPL or Royal Interocean Lines was born. The KPM ships Boissevain, Ruys and Tegelberg were used in 1948 in the Asia-Africa-South America Line and the Nieuw Holland was used on the Australia and New Zealand run. In 1948 a new building program started and two passengers ships the Tjiwangi and Tjiluwah and two cargo passengers ships Straat Makassar and Straat Banka were ordered. In 1965 it was clear that the KPM had lost it is reason to exist after Indonesia gained its independence and the afterward political troubles with Holland about New Guinea, so in 1966 the choice was made to merge the KPM into the KJCPL on 1 January 1967 and also brought the daughter businesses Hollandse Vrachtvaart Maatschappij HVM and Nederlandse Tank- en Paketvaart Maatschappij NTPM under the RIL flag and on 1 January 1967 the fleet comprised of 77 ships of 520, 620gt. Began working on a freelance base on a literature review for a chapter of a book on mangrove services and this turned into a full-time role for me at Edinburgh Napier University and I’m a co-author on the chapter. I have also been working with academics across the university on Teaching Fellows projects involving the student experience and run a 1st year lab in Environmental Biology. so having the chance to conduct my Masters research in Zanzibar through Bangor University led to where I’m today. Bangor University staff have been inspirational to me in the work they do, both as researchers and lecturers and I hope that we have many chances to collaborate at some point. (Check here)
But separately from a snapper or two, things were calm. Trying again next week. Our new supplier of outdoor lights is a switched on operator he he and among all their great gear they have these lockable plastic tool boxes. Started using them for my tackle and other gear and have found them a dream come true for keeping everything in one place so you know where it’s, also as dry and protected. And these tool boxes hold lots of gear. Because on the ship we never know what we ll be chasing next, I typically put reels on the rods and stow in the rod racks before leaving. Then when we get back, I find that half the rods and reels haven t been used, however they ve still been blasted by sun and salt and need a clean. (downriggershop.com.au)
