Founded and run by the Jacksonville Offshore Sport Fishing Club, the Tournament is a great family oriented event which serves as a fundraiser for the Club and other local charitable organizations. The angler, Scott Spivey, was questioned about the condition of the fish. He denied wrongdoing. 159 out of a tournament record 366 boats weighed in fish Saturday.   109 Junior anglers  took part, with 37 weighing in fish. We staked up in deep water, 70-80 feet. Our hopes were to find a Big Birtha Female on the deeper structure where the water temp is a tad warmer. We went with a four rod spread rigged with hand tied dropper rigs made up of 40 pound mono leader, 4/0 Mustad J-Hooks and 8-10oz bank weights. Our Blue Crabs were halved and the legs were trimmed off using stainless steel poultry sheers to keep the leg joints in tact. I run the point of the hook through a leg joint and back out of a adjoining leg joint. This buries the hook well enough to help ensure a decent shot at to get a hard hook set on a Sheepshead. While sheepshead fishing may be productive during the year, this can be the best time for aiming at the fish. Sheepshead aren’t a schooling fish. But they do congregate in lower reaches of bay systems, especially around bay/Gulf exchanges, from late February through March for the species’ yearly spawn. Jetties particularly attract concentrations of adult sheepshead, and anglers who hit the rocks on the right tide and with the right tackle can enjoy fast, if on occasion frustrating, action. I know loads of people will fish the info submerged part of the North and south Jetties for Drum and Sheeps. But can ya imagine after the El cheap Sheepshead tournament how many NEW anchors were left out there???  I have talked to 3 people who lost their anchor that day. So, I do not anchor off the North tip anymore. It is jus’ me. Because every time I do, I get caught in someone elses mistake. And my anchor is special to me. I have to order them. Not only will I get the chance to fish the famous Ebro River again for Wels catfish against some of the top anglers in the world but also the chance to represent the United States of America also as female anglers during the world is pretty thrilling to me, stated Larysa Switlyk. I will most certainly keep up with the boys, and I’m sure to shock quite some of them when I beat them in this tournament. I’ll compete seriously and I hope in doing so I can support more women to come out and attempt fishing for themselves, I know it’ll all be worth it.
