Registration starts at 7:00 am and weigh-in ends at 6:00 pm. $40 entry fee per person and this tournament is restricted to 150 entrants. 100 payback of prize money in cash and prizes. The Saugatuck tournament is put on by Sportsman for Sportsman and is a nonprofit organized event. Monies raised for the tournament from Sponsors also as entries from the fisherman themselves are put toward the payout to Tournament entrants. The Garrison Ducks Unlimited Chapter hosts an yearly fishing tournament on Mille Lacs Lake yearly called Fishing for Ducks. The contest draws roughly 4, 000 players from across the region and continues to grow yearly. The tournament boundaries are defined by the Ducks Unlimited logo, which covers an area of 32 acres on the west side of the lake in Garrison Bay, just off Pike Point. In last years, aerial photos revealed that the contest outline looked more like a loon than a duck, and was never quite right. Jolly’s Jiggin’ Jamboree, set this year for Feb. 27 on Knife Lake near Mora, exemplifies the common Minnesota ice fishing contest. Organizer Jim Hallin said the event started nine years ago in memory of local outdoorsman Greg “Jolly” Jolstad, a construction worker who died in the historic Interstate 35W bridge collapse. The derby has grown to field about 200 ice anglers and another 150 raffle ticket purchasers. The local Boy Scouts serve food, bands and DJs play music on the ice and the mayor of Mora helps run the raffle. (startribune.com)

Welcome to the North Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Conservation Series! The North Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Conservation Series is an yearly sportfishing series operating cooperatively with eight big billfish tournaments held along the Tar Heel coast. The Series, managed by the Division of Marine Fisheries promotes conservation, protection, and preservation of our marine resources. Participating boats or teams are given Series points for billfish caught and released and for billfish taken which met tournament minimum size prerequisites. Penalty points are assessed for undersized fish taken, the stress being on fish released. (portal.ncdenr.org)

The Garrison Wildlife Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host the 11th yearly Minnesota state ice fishing tournament Fishing for Ducks. The contest will be held in Garrison Bay. The contest is open to Ducks Unlimited members and non-members. There will be 100 total prizes given, as well as an Ice Castle Fish House, a Yamaha Grizzly 4-wheeler and a 4×4 Chevy Pickup Truck, subject to change. Gates open. (heyevent.com)

All students who enter get a personalized certification and their artwork is returned. All 1st through 3rd place pieces are kept for displays across the state and returned inside one year. Three 1st place, three second place, and three 3rd place winners and up to 16 honorable talk about winners are given in each of the four age groups. That is 100 winners completely! A special awards ceremony is held each spring at Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge for all 1st through 3rd place winners. Prizes in past years have included gift certificates, art supplies, backpacks and more. Washington artist Deanne "DeeDee" Murry’s painting of a Labrador retriever with green-winged teal will grace the 2016/17 Delaware Waterfowl Stamp, after winning the state stamp art competition. The contest was held April 23, 2015 at the Delaware farming Museum in Dover. For winning the competition, Ms. Murry, of Centralia, Wash, will get a $2, 500 prize and 150 artist’s proofs of the restricted edition print series of her entry. (Click here)
