A important to us. Fishing: Besides jetty fishing, my teenaged sons could like to do some sport fishing never tried before with a ship charter – which fishing spot could be best? We could also like to do squidding calamari rings are yummy! – any place that can add these actions? I was thinking of the Eaglehawk neck/ Pirates Bay area which has a jetty and also there are some charters there – could you recommend this area or another area? (tripadvisor.com.au)

Weird day, on the reef before 1st light and lots of macks on the sounder but as early as daybreak came they’d vanished, tried the common haunts and nothing, then afterward in the arvo went over this spot, the long strips on the left are macks and the dots/blobs are primarily baitfish with some bigger reefies from experience fishing these sort of pictures in the past but I must have been talking/tired as I marked the spot but totally ignored the macks. Oh well that is a spot for another day when the westerly wind is here rarely but still a nice little ledge from around 32m heading up into a small pinnacle so should generally hold bait/fish. That's where downriggers come in. The idea isn’t just deep trolling. It's to go to a place where big fish are recognized to recurrent, particularly when bright sunlight or heavy ship traffic has driven them there. Then, to present a bait or tempt right in the strikezone or where you’re marking fish, on the sounder. In some ways downrigging is more like bass fishing with lures, than marlin trolling.
