Most of the canal trail is well maintained on both the PA & NJ sides and ideal for runners. I run 50 miles a week and I have still to find a better stretch. The trails are flat with minimal debris. It is shaded, safe and totally peaceful. The stretches near tourist towns can get busy on the weekends with bicyclists and walkers. It is a romantic trail for couples and enjoyable for families. I appreciate the newly posted mile markers. Picnic tables are stationed every mile or so along the trail and at points along the river. (tripadvisor.com)

Most striped bass are caught in tidal parts of the river but recent reports as of last September have them as far north as Calicoon New York. Here the Delaware river is a stones throw across to pennsylvania. The last few years more and more bigger bass have been taken from the delaware and the trout fishermen have been to get spooked by this big predator taking their trout as they reel in. If you want to attempt live lining a bait fish to catch Delaware stripers be sure you have at least 15 lb test and at least a 4/0 hook if you don’t want it straitened out. They usually coincide with the american shad runs as shad is a main food source for them. (stripers247.com)

DRBC sets to discuss the river’s water quality with festival attendees. Staff gather macroinvertebrates aquatic bugs from the Delaware River and display them for people of all ages to view and learn about. The amount and kind of macroinvertebrates found in a waterbody may help tell how clean it’s. Some are sensitive to pollution and others are more tolerant. We usually find some number of sensitive species, as an example, mayflies and stoneflies, in our collections, which is a sign that the river is in good health. (nj.gov)
The big news on the Jersey Shore this week is the back bay striped bass season that got underway on Tuesday with excellent results! The 1st keeper-size linesides were stated on clam/worm mixes on the Raritan Bayshore, while one boater on the Mullica River also scored a 20-pound class fish on bloodworm! Reports of herring already staging upriver in South Jersey, coupled with the 2015 late season run of stripers, points to the real possibility that the spring run may be simply amazing! If you have been looking for a reason to feverishly break free of the cabin, bloods or clams at seasonal hotspots from the Delaware to the Raritan could produce well. (brinkmansbaitandtackle.com)
Remnants of locks, cobblestone spillways and hand-built stone-arched culverts, the canal is a tremendous attraction for history lovers. The upper part of the feeder canal follows the Delaware River through historic New Jersey towns like Frenchtown, Stockton and Lambertville. The major canal passes the Port Mercer bridge tender’s house, through the charming villages of Kingston and Griggstown to Blackwells Mills, ending up in New Brunswick. Canoes may be rented at Griggstown and Princeton from concessionaires. (dandrcanal.com)
