Cook your them. In a big pot, bring one gallon of water and one-half cup salt to a boil. Add about two quarts of crayfish and bring back to a boil. Simmer, covered till crayfish turn red and rise to the surface – about five minutes. Remove all crayfish now and cook extra batches in the same water. Peel the tails while they’re still warm unless you’re freezing them whole . Chill cooked crayfish in ice water, then bag and freeze. My 1st foray into crawdad fishing occurred last Saturday and I had a blast. All it took was chicken legs, string and a net. The net is important. The other part to my on-the-water adventure was a friend who was wanting to show my four-year-old and me the ropes. I’m usually kind of fisherman but when it comes to this form of arthropod I can not say no. It doesn t take much time to catch your fill as long as you go in the right season. The 1st time I went in June we harvested four crawfish. Purchasing a pound of chicken for some grams of crawfish didn t equate. It was personal the next time around. We bought chicken, string, and some beers and headed out. We fished four lines and by the time we harvested the 4th line the 1st was prepared to pull out again. One thing is certain, if you go fishing for crawfish you’ll have a great time. Young or old, you’ll have a smile on your face as you catch these little lobsters. Since crayfish can not be transported alive it’s important to properly clean them and preserve them. Once you have accumulated your catch for the day you have to kill them by stabbing every one firmly on the top where the head joins the body. If you’re planning to have a crayfish boil at the reservoir place each crayfish in new water and clean every one completely especially on the bottom. Rinse with new water and repeat if needed. Now the crayfish may be de-veined. You do this you grabbing the top center fin, give it a turn and pull. You may be able to then soak the crayfish in a brine solution for 5 minutes to more clean them. (utahoutdooractivities.com)

The Crab Boil is a packet containing lots of spices and seasonings that not only flavor the water but permeate the air with a tantalizing aroma. The vinegar, clarified Milburn, is supposed to make the crawdad meat a little firmer. He and Miller 1st put a couple dozen little red potatoes in the pot and let them cook 30 minutes. Then, freshly husked corn-on-the-cob went in and cooked another five minutes. Then it was time to throw a small cooler-full of crawdad tails and claws. We waited about five minutes for the water to come back to boiling temperature, then another four or five minutes for the tails to cook. (deseretnews.com)

Here are some photos of our common catch on Strawberry reservoir in central Utah. I promised you some time ago to send some. We think we get some pretty big ones here, however I do not have much to compare them to. Our biggest has calculated 7 1/4 inches long. The part of paper is 8 inches long. Mr. Crayfish has some shortcomings when in comparison to his blue-blood Bostonian brother to make sure you ll require some number of of his aunt s, uncles and cousins to make a meal size part. Chances are high he isn t accompanied by a snooty waiter, you ll get no silk screen imaged bib and he’s no recurrent flier points to cash in with Delta. You may be able to catch crayfish any time, however I favor the late afternoons because as early as enough crayfish are caught, they can be included in a Cajun picnic. Add crayfish or crab seasoning mix to a big pot of water and bring it to a boil. Then add new potatoes and corn on the cob with some smoked sausage. Once that mixture is strained and removed from the water, add the crayfish. Crayfish turn bright red as they cook and float up to the top when prepared from 5-7 minutes . (heraldextra.com)

Fishing for cutthroat trout, lake trout and whitefish was good. The ‘rockpile’ off Ideal Beach was good for both trout and whitefish. The whitefish are primarily taken right over the rocks in depths of 40 to 50 feet. Trout are found in water depths of 50 to 75 feet in the same general area. Other good spots this week have been along the highway pull-offs south of Gus Rich Point in water from about 50 to 70 feet deep for trout. The rockpiles just north of the Bear Lake State Park marina have not had lots of pressure this week, however the anglers fishing them are catching some nice-sized cutthroats. (utahfishfinder.com)
