As we we began marking fish nearly now along the channel edges. Ledges are the most distinctive fish-holding feature in Lake Eufaula. The lake is comparatively shallow in general with creek and river channels cutting through big flats. Usually, the edges of the channels are nearly vertical, forming steep dropoffs of 10 feet or more. The fish like to hold on or near these “ledges” in the late winter because they let lots of vertical motion without having to travel long distances as could be the case in a slowly sloping bottom. We have been catching our trout on the grass flats in two to four feet of water. Having the water near 68 degrees or better was most productive. DOA shrimp, CAL jerk baits and shad tails have been our best lures for catching the trout. Work your lures gradually this time of year for best results. The redfish we have caught are hanging under the mangroves and docks. Get your lures under the mangroves to find the redfish. it is a challenge some days, however it produces fish! you may be able to find lots of jacks, ladyfish and mackerel around the inlet regions on the incoming tide. Small, shiny lures will work best for these fish. (fishhound.com)
Bass fishing is still slow. On major lake points, run a crawfish or red shad crank bait on the points and bump the bottom with the tempt. Don’t use up much time in the same place till a school is found. Watch the Lowrance depth finder and with the down scan technology, anglers can cover 4 times more water than with regular sonar beams. Fish can be either suspended or tight on cover. Stick with spoons on the river ledges and bounce the off the bottom. A Hopkins 1/2 oz is just but keep moving. Spoons on the river ledges bounced off the bottom and use small ones can get some strikes. Fish any deep standing timber with spoons and jigs, and use black finesse worms, jigs and spoons. There are two bridges that span this mid lake area. One bridge is the Hwy. 83 bridge. Just below it’s the Central Railroad bridge. Man made rip-rap rocks line both of these bridges for miles and these rocks hold heat during the day as bordering waters warm. They also hold bass and crappie in April and May. There are many sunken brush piles placed by Alabama Power Company. They are obviously obvious with buoys marked as fish attractors. One small feeder creek Tobannee Creek, may be found just below the Railroad bridge on the Georgia side of the lake. (Get more)
The ODWC periodically conducts net surveys at selected waters to assess crappie populations. Anglers favor to catch white and black crappie at least 10 inches long, so the ODWC factors that knowledge into its in general lake ratings. The 2011 gill net survey is the last that s available, however since it takes a crappie about three years to reach 10 to 12 inches, 2011 data is relevant today. We ll look at our best lakes and examine some sleepers, also. (gameandfishmag.com)
Sand Bass season is near. In the next few day the weather will start to warm. When the water temperature reaches 50 to 52 degrees, the Sand Bass run will be on and will last for about 3 weeks. Lake Broken Bow has one of the best Sand Bass runs in the complete state. Male sand bass come in around a pound and females around 2 to 3 lbs. I’ll clean up to 20 sand bass for you. You have to bring an ice chest if you want to keep all the sand bass you catch. This is a great time of the year to introduce kids to fishing. Just bring lots of warm clothes. (Check out your url)

Rigging up a tandem rig like Morrow uses is simple. Morrow ties the 1st jig on using a loop knot then runs around 14-inches of line to the bottom jig that he ties on with another loop knot. The top jig typically weighs 1/8-oz and the top jig 1/4-oz. The complete rig weighs around 3/8-ounces. As for tempt color, Morrow like using contrasting colors. Jig head one color and the soft plastic body a different color. His favorite mix is a Lindy black jig head rigged with a brown and orange Watsit body or a Lindy chartreuse jig head with a black and pink Watsit body. Since the crappie are big, Morrow uses 12 pound fishing line. (bradwiegmann.com)
