Recent samplings over half the crappies at 10 inches or better. Otter Pit is believed to be alike. I don t see any reason that Otter shouldn t be as good as Loon. They both have benefited from comparatively light fishing pressure in the past. That may change, but. Since the new ship rules allowing gas motors have been effectively, we ve seen lots more anglers on these waters, Carnahan said. (gameandfishmag.com)
Throughout the spring spawning period, use a trolling motor to move gradually and silently close to the shoreline. Flip a small 1/32 to 1/16 oz jig into the shallow water along the shore. Move gradually and hit every nook and cranny around rocks, woody debris and vegetation. Pea gravel banks are favored spawning places. Once you find crappie, stop and continue fishing that spot till the fish stop biting or they’re not large enough to match you. If a spring cold front sends crappie out to deeper water, concentrate on steep banks. Crappie won't be far off the bank. (brookvillelake.com)
Tom I a moment and thanks for your hospitality and a great trip on Lake Lemon! You know when I set that trip up I was more interested in learning a new technique than really catching fish and you were able to fulfill both. Not only did I learn a new technique but I learned the value of having a great guide. Just think how lots of people could take a rainy day mixed with a little wind and turn into a great fishing trip. My family will enjoy the cooler full of fish and I’ll enjoy memory for the rest of my life. I can’t thanks enough for sharing your knowledge and will think of you every time I’m pulling a slab onto my own ship. (hoosiercrappieandcatfishguideservice.com)
So we find the depth of the crappie and fish on or somewhat above that depth. A depth finder is a sure way of doing this. I nearly generally use this technique by knowing about the tempt I'm using. Knowing the weight size of my jig I know how far it’ll fall in the water every second. If using the 1/16 oz size I know it falls about 1 foot per second so by count upon water entry of 1001-1002-1003. Once I get a hit I repeat each cast. (saltcreekdave.com)
The 1st thing you will notice is that for the most part, every lake listed falls into just 1 or 2 basic groups. They’re either in the higher range with CPUE’s around 150, or they’re in the lower range with CPUE’s around 50. So what does this really mean? It means when a team of biologists pulls along a bank on one of those listed lakes and does their survey, they’re shocking up, on average, either 50 or 150 bass every hour. Now when you think about that a survey ship is moving along pretty gradually so that all the fish shocked may be netted and counted, you are really discussing hundreds, more probably hundreds and hundreds of bass down any given mile or two of shoreline. Most water bodies carrying do-not-eat intake advisories for all species are streams. The fish intake advisory has an broad list of rivers and streams that have species with group 4 and 5 intake advisories; but, many streams contain species with low levels of contaminants. Some number of of the big fished rivers that have some group 4 and 5 species are listed. Many of these rivers and streams contain some good catch-and-release fisheries. (eregulations.com)
Species Found: Lake species include walleyes, LM Bass, Perch, Crappies and Catfish, however the real attraction here is the stretch of water that runs approx. 2 miles from the Dam to the Whitewater river that’s a trout fishery. Rainbows are stocked here in the Spring and Fall as part of the Indiana Trout Stocking Program. Recently the Central Indiana Trout Unlimited, Chapter 699, with permission from the Indiana State Wildlife Agency, IDNR was stocking small Brown trout to see if they’ll holdover from year to year. So far the results are promising and there are some holdover fish from past stockings. (thebrookvilleinn.com)
I fished Brookville Lake from the shore back in the 90’s. I did not have a ship so I was restricted to shore fishing. THE hot time of the year is May, right up on the dam. It is 800 yards of riprap with a road across the top, parking on each end. Although the walleyes are stocked first, the lake is deep enough 100’+ at the south end with enough rock on the dam, the walleyes started naturally reproducing. So the DNR closes the dam throughout April to harvest eggs from walleyes for their hatcheries. Come May, fishermen can get back on the dam and the bite differs like it does anywhere . My best catches and I have had few nice ones there come from throwing AC Shiners and shallow-running Shad Raps right down the bank along the shore. (bassresource.com)
The Middlefork Reservoir Park is a 405-acre building which hosts a 177 acre stream and spring-fed lake. In addition to fishing and boating, the park also hosts indoor and outdoor picnic regions, different active and passive play regions, hiking trails, and an excellent setting for enjoying an afternoon in the sun. The Hill’s Bark Park is located at the reservoir. Bring your dog along and take benefit of this big, fenced, off-leash play area. Located on Sylvan Nook Drive, Middlefork Reservoir is undoubtedly one of Richmond’s best kept secrets. (waynet.org)
The reservoir offers good largemouth bass fishing although some feel that the twice-weekly tournaments throughout the summer months have lowered the quality of the fishery. As indicated by DNR creel surveys, roughly 25 of fishermen on the lake are aiming at bass but luckily, 95 of the legal fish are released. That means there are many chances to catch nice fish and the Eagle Creek Bait Shop generally sees some number of seven and eight pound largemouth brought in every year. Most avid bass fisherman use up their days casting the shorelines with conventional crankbaits, spinners and plastic baits. (wildindiana.com)
