Moving more arm, the last of what Harrison mentions as the Redgrass Islands are located on a big rounded point near the intersection of Redgrass Creek and the major Yalobusha channel. Because the water in this area tends to be a little deeper than points more east, Harrison prefers to stay in the ship to fish the observable cover. Owing in part to the deeper water, the trees tend to be spread more separately which makes it easier to access by ship. He also opts for a longer rod than his 9-foot wading rod. (ms-sportsman.com)
Spawn, I will typically fish the Skuna side of the lake because it will be warmer, and the crappie there will be searching for that warmer water. After I have fished the Skuna side of the river for the initial spawn, I will change and go to the Yalobusha side to get that 1st big run of crappie when the fish start moving to that side of the lake. The north and the northwest side of every one of these two rivers will generally warm up 1st. When the north side of the lake spawns out, I will move to the south side of the lake and fish Redgrass Creek, Wolf Creek and Butputer Creek. (nighthawkpublications.com)

Lake Washington is just about an hour southwest of Grenada, and has only become nationally recognized in the last 5 or 6 years. Washington differs from the other famous lakes in Mississippi as it’s an oxbow, and it differs from other oxbows because it’s now cut off from the river that made it. Though there’s an area of 10 to 15 feet of water, most of the lake consists of coverless flats ranging in depth from 5 to 8 feet, enclosed on one side by houses and piers, and the other by ancient cypress groves. As with the other Mississippi lakes, the growth rate of the crappie is phenomenal, finding lots of 4-year-old, 15-inch crappie ranging from 2 to 2 1/2 pounds, and turning out many 3-plus-pounders yearly. Yearly, the down the lake around August 1, Meals told. It s typically at winter pool around December 1. In the fall, the fish are constantly on the move. If the weather cooperates, the fish are usually concentrated in the standing timber in the upper arms of the lake in late summer or early fall if the water cools enough. Otherwise, they hang out around major lake ledges and humps. Throughout the fall, just because someone finds a bunch of fish one week, that doesn t essentially mean they ll find fish in the same place the following week. (guide.sportsmansguide.com)
Collins Bait Shop 662 226-3581 and MDWFP angler creel surveys this past week showed crappie fishing was best in the major lake point from Skuna ramp to Carver Point fishing big crankbaits or jigs and/or minnows 14 20 ft deep. lots of short fish are stated; use bigger baits and fish deeper to deter smaller fish. Pinch down the barbs on hooks to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish. Quite some blue catfish and white bass have been hitting baits meant for crappie. Catfish have been biting natural baits on lines, jugs noodles, or rod-and-reel. (fishhound.com)
When pressed, those fishermen point to Pelahatchie Bay as the 1st area to start producing good catches in February. Other sites include Rose’s Bluff; Big Lake, which is just out from Browns Landing on the Natchez Trace side at Madisonville; and the Welfare Hole, just southeast of the SR 43 bridge near channel markers 50 and 52. These sites have all made good catches in February. But do not overlook the evident: The tailrace below the dam is an excellent site for taking your bound of cold-water crappie. (gameandfishmag.com)
The unanimous No. 1 pick for catching a 3-pound crappie is Mississippi’s Grenada Lake. Tournament weights and photos in bait shops verify that the lake produces big crappie year after year. March is a good time for pre-spawn and the start of the spawn. Summer and fall are good, too, however the fish won’t have the same weights. An average spring day when fish are biting you may be able to expect some number of fish over 2 pounds, maybe kicker or two over 2. 5, and sporadic fish over 3 pounds. (lurenet.com)
Bream flyfishers who tie flies for their fake imitations will design intricate crickets or grasshoppers with pheasant rear feathers for the wings and legs, and rubber ‘hackle’ for the antennae. Using closed-cell bubble, but, lets the fisherman to design an imitation that sits easily on the water. Flies for crappie include colorful pictures that integrate purple, blue, or black marabou feathers and spinners in front of the flies. Most fishers will simply imitate a red worm by tying a thick string on a hook. (Check out your url)
October is one of the best months of the year to catch crappie on Grenada, said Harrison. Once it cools down and the weather gets stable you may be able to really catch them steadily. While Harrison recently retired from a lifelong career in law enforcement, his 1st love is fishing, and catching monster crappie is what he does best. He s also parlayed that love into a second career as it were, if you may be able to call catching crappie every day a job. (More info)
