That means that there’s lots of debris floating or just somewhat submerged and care should be exercised to avoid it while boating. Bass are beginning to actively forage for food, wanting to fatten up before the spawn. They’ll be holding in deeper water bordering to sand or gravel banks, coming up on the flats to feed in the afternoon sun. Crappie usually strike the jig as it drops after it hits the water. Let it sink and twitch it twice, and if nothing happens hit another opening. I accidentally ran into a Bowfin hotbed, as I’m sure many others have. I’m an active responsibility sailor who grew up fishing the waters of South Texas. I recently finished an assignment at NAB Little Creek in Virginia Beach, VA. There’s a lake there, part of which is on the base and is called Lake Bradford and there’s a fence on one end that separates the off base part called Chubb Lake. Interestingly enough, it’s a freshwater lake that’s separated from the Chesapeake Bay by less than 100 yards. (bowfinanglers.com)
