Conneaut Lake Ice Fishing Tournament

Timberland bait yearly Conneaut Lake Ice Fishing Contest this Saturday from 7am till 4:30pm. Cash prizes will be given for biggest musky, northern pike, walleye, crappie, and perch. Prizes will be given at 5pm. The cost of registration is $15. You may be able to buy tickets before the tournament at Timberland Bait Shop or at Anchorman’s Beer Distributors-Home of Chuck’s Bait. Tickets may also be bought at the Fireman’s Beach at Conneaut Lake the morning of the event. Jerry Van Tassel, of Timberland Bait, will have his headquarters and functionings set up there. & East Mead Vol. Fire Dept 9 are partnering together to sponsor the 2015 Fall Sportsman’s Raffle. The last programs of each department were easily meshed into one event in an effort to overcome the challenges of available space and resources. This partnership is already showing signs of success as we work towards presenting the big event on September 26th, 2015. Ice Fishing 2014. Follow John Royer and friends they go to Kahle Lake and Lake Wilhelm in western Pennsylvania to do some ice fishing for panfish. The video starts out with John and Andy at Kahle lake for bluegills and crappie. Afterward, John, Ryan, Shane and other friends head to Lake Wilhelm for great crappie fishing. John returns Wilhelm the following day with his girlfriend and has a good day of catching lots of perch and other species of fish. (youtube.com)

Ben Lipiec Erie ; filed 2/25: Went to Canadohta Lake this past Sunday for crappies. Found them suspended in 10-15 feet over 25 feet depth with soft bottom off spawning regions. Fish weren’t hard to find; the trick was to get them to bite. Once I figured that out, catching was pretty steady. Moving around lots did not seem to help because the fish weren’t in one spot for long just roaming. The best deal for me was once you found an area a group of crappies could pass through sometimes so you were better off waiting them out. This could happen every 5 to 15 minutes; if you waited 30 minutes, it was time to move. (ohiovalleyoutdoors.com)

There may be little question that the best trophy musky fishery in Pennsylvania, possibly the best in the eastern U. S, is the Allegheny Reservoir. Anywhere else, Bradley’s musky could have caused a feeling. There, it was just another musky in a steady stream of big muskies. The biggest to date was a 48. 5-pounder caught throughout the 1987 season. But serious musky hounds are convinced that this big lake holds a state record, and most likely some number of of them. ; 3/18: There is open water on Elk from Whiteman s Bridge to the mouth of the creek. The mouth is still closed but the access is open. Fishermen have been having great luck on both browns and steelheads. The upper stream at the West Road Bridge was open also. The big problem is the big ice jam that extends from the old Rt. 20 bridge in Girard at the Legion to Rt. 90; it’s the worst I have ever seen on the creek, and it may create big problems for landowners downstream and any fishermen in the stream when it lets go. The 500-acre Woodcock Lake is in central Crawford County, five miles northeast of Meadville. Owned and operated by the U. S. Corps of Engineers, its main function is flood control, so it’s subject to fluctuating levels. When the water level was stable, the lake may be quite clear. Dramatic winter drawdowns bound weed growth, however throughout some years, terrestrial weeds are present throughout the spring and summer months in shallow-water zones. Darius was the major financial contributor to his family. His wife is pursuing a Master’s degree in School Psychology and three of his five boys aren’t of school age still. Darius didn’t have any health benefits through work. The motorist who ran him off the road didn’t stop long enough to give any insurance info. The walleye bite was good from West Sister Island to Ashtabula and just about everywhere in between. The best depths have been between 37 and 41 feet where the bulk of the walleye are schooling, however walleye are being caught in shallower and deeper waters, also. Drift-and-cast fishermen report lots of smaller walleye being caught off Cedar Point in 31 to 38 feet of water on small spinner rigs and weight-forward spinners. (cleveland.com)

Personally, I was just about blown away at the size of these crappies. From a northern perspective, they were big and thick. We caught few fish under 12 inches and more than half of our catch were from 13 to 14 ½ inches long, thick and heavy. In Deep South venues, this could must be considered high-quality size structure for these fish. During the week, our group of 7 anglers caught roughly 250 crappies from Pymatuning with a high of them exceeding 13 inches and some up to 15. This kind of quality is at least as good at other, greatly touted Back East crappie places like Lake Anna, Kerr Reservoir and not far behind famous Santee-Cooper for in general size structure.
