Captree Fishing Captain Whittaker

I grew on this ship. I have fond memories of my dad taking me here every summer for many years. It left afterward 9am than most of the other boats at captree, so it was a perfect fit for the kid who liked to sleep in a little throughout her summer vacation. The last owner or owner's wife? was this sweet little Asian lady who could remember me year after year. I never felt deterred or out of place while fishing with my pops and the crew of the Whittaker. This ship is ridiculously family oriented and has special afternoon trips for families with younger kids. Hopefully the new captain carries on the traditions of the old. (yelp.com)

My grandson comes up to visit once a year and I generally take him fishing on a Captree ship. I chose the Captain Whittaker because the morning trip timing worked and and I had read that the ship was child friendly and stayed in calm waters. I will go back because Captain Rick who I understand just bought the ship and his crew were GREAT. My grandson, Jordan, can not stop discussing it. We only got 1 keeper fluke, however the fishing was non stop action. When we did not catch fish at the 1st spot, Capt Rick now moved on and after that we were constantly catching fish. The fleet is a strong as ever still LI’s biggest, with many boats with names that remind us of our childhoods like Capt. Rod, Capt. Gillen, Laura Lee, Jib VI who remembers Jib I thru V?, Captree Princess, Island Princess, Capt. Whittaker and so many more. The boats have been fishing out of Captree since the 50s it’s amazing they haven’t caught all the fish still, thanks nature and Father’s Day falls right when the fluke really start biting. Went out on my yearly fishing trip on the Captain Whittaker yesterday. My grandsion was visiting from Georgia and its one thing he loves to do. I, with my stepdaughter and my grandson caught the 9am ship. The day’s fishing started out slow but picked up nicely. It got to the point where Jen, the mate on the ship was running from one line to another taking off fish and baiting hooks. There was a 6 year old beside us who yelled that he had a fish every time his line hit the bottom, however Jen could rush over with enthusiasm every time and explain what it’ll feel like when he really has a fish.
