Fish while along the Long Island sound between Shorem Wading River and Horton’s point. Your destination will take you past the historical Lighthouse Park a prominent landmark. You will not have long to sightsee although because it is only 30 minutes to some of the best fishing off Long Island. Only one half hour from the dock to the fish means more time to do what you came for and less time watching the wake. Snowshoe flounder, doormat fluke, giant blues and striped bass, and porgies galore. For the most memorible fishing trip of your life you may be able to count on Captain Bob. (captbobfishingfleet.com)
Over at Fisherman’s World I spoke to Jeremy this week and he said that there’s still a pretty good herring bite taking place in the Harbor. The fish are showing a slight preference for smaller Sabiki rigs he suggested size 6 hooks for your best shot. Otherwise the striper bite in the Housy is still a viable choice but the bite is tough. The fish are schooled up in the deeper water as projected in February an this is when they begin to get a sever case of lock-jaw. On occasion a warm snap like the one predicted for this week can trigger them into feeding so this may be a good call if you are wanting to wet a line in the next few days. (thefisherman.com)
The Captain Bob has fished under different names and boats all over Long Island from Captree to Montauk to our current home Mattituck where we have these great waters all to ourselves. Low fishing pressure means more fish, bigger fish and a better view. Every day we give away free trips, hats, shirts and food creating a competitive and friendly atmosphere that no other ship can match. Capt Bob Ceglowski and James Wolf have been fishing these waters for over thirty years and Captain John Bowen, of the Celtic Quest Fleet will be modernizing the vessel and using all the new fishing methodologies and plans also as adding new trips to visit new wrecks, edges and bottoms no party ship has ever fished! we’re an open ship if you come down and want to fish we’re here to accommodate you. Long Island fluking has really taken off over the past few days with some real monsters caught in Long Island Sound and at Montauk. Northport, Huntington, Port Jefferson and Mattituck have led the way on the north side, with the open ship fleet scoring especially. Capt. Bob in Mattituck decked a pair of 11-pounders on Saturday; the Osprey fleet drilled doormats to 8. 75 pounds, James Joseph Fleet had whoppers to 11 pounds, plus over 20 fish topping 7 pounds, and Celtic Quest has put some big ones in the cooler also. At Montauk, a strong showing of bigger fish started on Monday with doormats to 10 pounds hitting the deck of many charter boats. (onthewater.com)

That a predominately freshwater angler from upstate New York could hold his own with the local Long Island crew aboard the Mattituck open ship, Capt. Bob, was really no surprise. Though Way took particularly well to the task, black sea bass are willing combatants and a way to introduce anglers of all ages to the bottom-fishing game. While usually agreeable, they can show a marked preference for selected tides, may turn totally on or off at any point in time, and can change how they take a bait from a light tap or slight feeling of added weight to an violent strike. Shortly, their temperament offers enough challenge to be interesting while their size is enough to look remarkable coming over the rail. (coastalanglermag.com)
The Navy appropriated nearly all of Montauk throughout the war for buildings as well as Montauk Manor which was used as a dormitory. Torpedoes were tested in Lake Montauk. Ships and dirigibles docked on Navy Road on Fort Pond Bay. The Navy was to find Fort Pond inhospitable since it was shallow. Dredging was to give to problems with flooding. After the war the Navy moved the residential part of Montauk which had been on the bay by the Long Island Rail station a mile to the south to get away from the flooding. One of the biggest legacies of the Navy presence was to be the dredging of Lake Montauk so that it replaced Fort Pond as Montauk’s dock. (en.wikipedia.org)
