With many of our Puget Sound steelhead rivers now closed throughout the height of the spring season, we use up a just amount of time north of border in pursuit of chrome. For pinks and coho, a 7 weight single hander with a floating and clear intermediate line work well. Chum and chinook are better paired with 8-10 weight rods and a range of sink info. As the river usually runs clear throughout salmon season, we usually fish pretty small, sparse patterns like California Neils and Rolled Muddlers with great success. Winter steelhead are best covered with a 7-8 weight spey rod for maximum efficiency and better line control sweeping the, broad runs of the lower Vedder. (theconfluenceflyshop.com)

Another one of Washington’s noted bass lakes. There are some big, quality LM bass cruising this lake. The lake is quite shallow and stained. It is located as part of the Terrell Recreational Area and is undeveloped. The lake weeds up early in the summer. I know because last year 2006 when we fished this lake my jet motor’s intake got clogged up and there went the water pump! This is a beautiful destination with nothing but fishy water to explore. Once you backtrack to the Hemlock Trail to do some extra exploring. Head over to Raptor Ridge for nice views of the San Juan Islands, or take the newly worked on trail that connects with the North Lost Lake Trail camping not allowed for a two mile hike. There’s also a four mile hike to Fragrance Lake camping not allowed, or if you’re really motivated, head west downhill for six miles to Larrabee State Park to see Wildcat Cove and Chuckanut Bay. All these places in the Chuckanut Mountain Range are certainly worth looking into. (wta.org)
Was established, followed by the Blue Canyon City, a community for the miners and their families. The coal was transported across the lake in rail cars towed on barges by a steamboat named Ella. afterward but, it became needed to build a railway to transport the big amounts of coal more quickly and by 1901 the whole of the north shore of the lake was connected by the Bellingham Bay and Eastern Railroad which transported, at one time, as much as 3, 000 tons of coal a month to San Francisco. The mine also supplied the US Navy with coal for its warships for 25 years. But, after about 35 years of operation, some number of different holders and some tragic mining accidents, the mine closed for good. (Check out your url)
Wild Fish Conservancy 1st quantified important coho prespawning mortality at Des Moines Creek in 2002. The WFC results in Seattle, Bellevue, and Des Moines urban creeks subsequently resulted in cooperative studies by Seattle Public Utilities, NOAA Toxicology Lab, and WFC. These results activated planning to deal with urban stormwater, its affects on salmon, and its larger affects on Puget Sound and at other West Coast urban regions. (wildfishconservancy.org)
