The Campbell ‘Perc’ Ponds 8 of them at Los Gatos Creek County Park just off of Highway 17 and Winchester Blvd. Is a great place to kill a couple hours fishing, do some practicing, and to bring kids. The ponds line a stretch along the Los Gatos Creek Trail, a paved pedestrian/bike trail and every one has own distinctive characteristics by structure and form, and there are bass and carp in every one… big ones that are smart, but lots of small largemouth and bluegill. On Community Fishing Days kids age 5-15 learn the joys of fishing, and to discover opportunities to fish at public lakes, ponds and streams in their own community. The program also gives kids an appreciation of the outdoors, basic environmental awareness, and promotes a sense of stewardship of parks, fishing and the environment all together. Thanks to the program s partners, South Bay Fishing in the City is offered free to the players any park entrance fees must be paid . (sccgov.org)
The historic part of downtown Willow Glen is possibly the best recognized area for foundation problems in Santa Clara County – the older homes in place previous to the percolation ponds suffered caused by the flux of the soil. The other day I showed a home that was classic in that regard: the floor rolled greatly, the outside of the home had a tremendous number of cracks and the windows belied the obvious foundation problem. I took the following photo earlier this week of a window in that home. (sanjoserealestatelosgatoshomes.com)
In the 1950s forced most of the creek through Los Gatos to be diverted into a concrete gulch. As a Caltrans magazine from the era describes it: Included in this project is a relocation of Los Gatos Creek for a distance of 6, 000 feet, requiring a concrete line channel. The Los Gatos Daily Times on Aug. 31, 1954, stated that bulldozers have virtually finished clearing and leveling the bed of Los Gatos Creek, and preparations are readied for laying the concrete culvert. FOLSOM LAKE ? There wasn? T much change in the fishing success for trout and landlocked king salmon. It was slow. And, nice weather has brought out the jet skier and wake boarding crowd to churn up the lake on weekends. Bass fishing was good, although, and anglers were catching smallmouth and spotted bass up to 4 pounds. Browns Ravine and Dike 8 were two of the better spots. Fish were holding on newly flooded grassy flats, and open water pockets between the shore and floating debris. They were taking topwater lures early in the morning, however crawdads, live and fake, and dartheaded plastics were more productive in general. (pressdemocrat.com)
LAFAYETTE: The trout bite is staying strong with regular anglers to get limitations most days and people who are newer to the reservoir typically catching a fish or two. Both nightcrawlers and Power Bait are working well. Fishing is best from the boats in the south end and the east cove, however also decent from the shoreline on the south end and docks close to the south end. A plant from Mount Lassen goes in this week. DFG plants next week. 925 284-9669$. (marinij.com)
The holiday season is a time for family and friends to connect and use up quality time together, and there is no better way to do this than the time-honored tradition of fishing, said Carl Wilcox, Regional Manager for DFG’s Bay Delta Region. DFG made it easier to purchase a license for yourself or someone else with our Automated License Data System. With the lakes stocked and your license just a mouse click away, all that is left to do is show up and enjoy yourself. (bdoutdoors.com)
This inspiration point is named for Gordon Reynolds who died on Aug. 4, 1998, after a year-and-a-half fight with cancer. He was 47. Before his death, he had seen his KidsPort — a play structure inside San Jose International Airport — come to fruition. Reynolds had a hand in politics as well, working as an independent political advisor who ran campaigns for Councilman Matthew Dean and Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith. (Check over here)
Every year tens of thousands of Snow Geese and Speckeled stomach Geese stop over in Dixon on their way back to their Arctic feeding/breeding grounds. There are so many snows now they’re eating themselves out of habitat in the fragile tundra so a special ‘late season’ was set by the California and federal F&G to decrease the numbers. The problem is yearly they arrive in rural Dixon about a month after the special hunt season. This year was different when they arrived on Valentine’s Day by the 10’s of thousands in rural Southeast Dixon. From the Levy, on Levy Road it looked like fields were covered in snow; hence the Snow Goose name. (tedhickman.com)
At the midpoint of the trail is Los Gatos Creek County Park, an 80-acre urban park encompassing six percolation ponds. The northernmost pond can be used for fishing and non-power boating. This pond is stocked with Rainbow Trout from November through April. Black Bass, Catfish, Blue Gill, Crappie and Carp are caught in the pond. The center pond is chosen for model boaters. The left over ponds offer visitors the chance to view many kinds of water fowl. Note that feeding water fowl is constrained; see Waterfowl Management for more info. Casting ponds are available, open to the public daily from 8:00 a. (virtualtourist.com)
