Mates in females extrude from 100 to 300 eggs shortly thereafter. The eggs or “berries” remain attached to the bottom of the female through the winter and hatch in late spring. The young crayfish remain as passengers on the mother for some number of weeks, molting twice before venturing out permanently on their own. In summer, a common crayfish lake will contain immature males and females from the last year which haven’t still mated, adult males, adult females which have recently shed their young, and many newly-hatched juveniles. some of the earliest born juveniles may grow enough to mate the same fall, however the most aren’t able to reproduce till the following fall, when they’re 17 or 18 months old. I could use chicken livers to catch crawdads in the San Joaquin River, then use the crayfish as bait to catch catfish from the bank. Worked like a charm every time. One of my fondest memories came at a swimming hole near Oakdale. My brother promised me a rope swing into the river, and he delivered. I came to learn that in this specific spot — it was deep. There was a large hole in the bottom of the river. Being the inquisitive chap that I was, I wanted to see what was down there, I dove as far as I could into that hole and waited for the murkiness to clear. There, in this hole, sat nature’s shelving at every level. (honest-food.net)
Here are common catch on Strawberry reservoir in central Utah. I promised you some time ago to send some. We think we get some pretty big ones here, however I do not have much to compare them to. Our biggest has calculated 7 1/4 inches long. The part of paper is 8 inches long. My catch is in the two buckets to the right in the photo using two Commercials and two of the smaller Sportsman Pro. Our biggest catch for two days is 980. Thanks, . (terrybullard.com)
The courts have steadily upheld these inspection authorities. As for check points, CDFW has used check points for the past 25 years as a focused and efficient means of educating resource users and deterring violations of our wildlife laws. In a state as vast as California with a population of over 38 million people and with a staff of only 400 sworn officers, CDFW needs to ensure that the money and manpower resources we have are put to the most economical use possible. Conducting checkpoints lets us to contact thousands of people who are using our public trust resources with a few of officers. (californiaoutdoorsqas.com)

A discussion came up at our rod and gun club the other day about if there are any official rules or limitations about hunters using drones to help in locating and tracking big game and/or another wildlife. I personally can t believe they could be legal to use but none of us have ever heard any official motivation on this subject one way or another. With deer season in full swing and more people now owning drones, I shudder to think that these more and more sophisticated aerial contraptions may be used by other hunters for wildlife surveillance and possibly for the driving or tracking of animals that they’re hunting. In 2003, the Alberta Government passed legislation clarifying the rules for recreational access on public lands leased for grazing and cultivation. While the new rules supply reasonable access on foot, as a recreational user you’re obliged to contact the leaseholder previous to your visit, if you’re only crossing the land to get to a specific water body. Forest Grazing Allotments, like those found in the forested area of the foothills along the Eastern Slopes, aren’t influenced by this legislation. (albertaregulations.ca)
Catching crayfish is such a new phenomenon that the state Fish and Wildlife Department does not track its popularity. But if you jog or picnic near a lake, from North Lake in Federal Way to Lake Ballinger in Mountlake Terrace, you will probably see people in sandals lifting rocks and logs by the banks, trying to catch crayfish with their bare hands or with aquarium nets. Others set traps filled with hot dogs, dog food or salmon scraps. (seattletimes.com)
From Glenshire down to State Line it was pretty good for this time of year and the trout being caught look healthy. As we move on to March look for spawning Rainbows and attempt to avoid them at times so they can do their thing. Streamers, Baetis, Midge and San Juan Worms are the patterns you'll have the best results with. It's going to be a nice week if you get a chance get out and fish. Also, KEEP THOSE TROUT WET WHEN PHOTOS ARE TAKEN. (mountainhardwareandsports.com)
