With the battery life of the radio transmitters, placement of transmitters on fish was staggered; 18 flatheads in Branched Oak were radio-tagged in June of 2012 and another 7 fish were radio-tagged in September of 2012. extra habitat use data may be amassed from the radio-tagged fish. now, after last years tagging and tracking, I can tell you that about half of the radio-tagged fish tended to be ‘homebodies’ and stayed just in the same area in which they were tagged for the length of their radio transmitter’s battery life. Other radio-tagged fish were ‘roamers’ and moved. Some of them moved lots, all over the reservoir. (magazine.outdoornebraska.gov)
Nothing against Branched Oak Lake… it’s a big reservoir and I tend to have my best luck on small bodies of water. The biggest reason why I do not go there’s the power boaters and jet skiers. To each their own… I do not have a problem with people enjoying these sports. I just do not like fly fishing with the wakes of speed boats lapping against me and disturbing all the fish. Because of this, fishing from the shore at Branched Oak is annoying… let alone, I can not imaging putting the stomach ship out on anything other then a ‘no-wake’ lake…. We took a cruise around and and fished some spots but the lake seemed pretty dirty and shallow near the shoreline. So we tried fishing at the end of some peers and caught some good range of fish but none were bass see pictures below . My dad had booked a big catfish that he had an epic fight with for nearly 10 minutes before it snapped his line! We never really got to see the fish because whenever it came anywhere close to the surface it could now for back down and run out the drag on his line, fun to watch although I could have like to have seen it.
