Bloemhof Dam Fishing Competition 2016

Bloemhof Dam range of plains game with especially big herds of springbok, black wildebeest, eland and gemsbok. Over 250 species of birds have been recorded at the reserve as well as some rare waterfowl on the dam. The reserve hosts some number of national and international fishing competitions as well as the Tri-Nations and the Bloemhof Bonanza. The Bloemhof Dam is open for all watersports. Day two’s draw on paper seemed quite good in our eyes. I was in D part, peg 11 where the day before the Italian had 15 kilos and lost as many, so I was feeling confident. Nobody likes to lose fish caused by fishing line failure! What makes it worse is the mess; you must rethread the fishing line through the tube of the rod, particularly when the barbel are on the bite! Braid is a better choice than nylon on a calling rod because it’s softer through the tube and the length of the tempt line can so easily and quickly be adjusted while using the rod. Nylon is harder and gets stuck in the tube when you want to change the length between the tempt and the tip of the rod. It’s also important not to use braid with a thin diameter because the thinner diameter will sooner or later because a groove inside the tube of the rod. (Find out here)

Vredefort Dome  To learn about the formation of the dome, the most obviously observable affect crater on earth, drop by the visitor centre at Venterskroon, where you may be able to watch a DVD and view rock samples. It’s open seven days a week from 8am to 4pm but it’s a smart idea to call ahead. There are all kinds of tours on offer in the dome geological, historical, cultural and birding. I remember when your company 1st started and it was just a couple of face shields and restricted gear. To see where you guys are now is amazing! My fishing addiction started young about age 4. We came to South Africa confident because the style of fishing and the target fish aren t alien to us but we generally knew we had to defeat South Africa to win. They had maps of the lake showing the depths and where the snags were plus flavourings and additives galore. It s generally hard to defeat the home team but I m proud of the performance still brassed off to have missed out after being so well-placed after day one.
