My 1st trip to this river was in 2004 throughout the Fly Rod & Reel Trout Bum Tournament. I had the pleasure of fishing with Ken Richards Just Fishin’ Guides . It was throughout this trip, that I realized how special of a place this river was. Unlike the other tailwaters in Arkansas, this tailwater remains comparatively undeveloped on the banks of the river and you get a true since that you’re in the center of the ozarks. The day we were there, the fish were willing and we had a great numbers day of catching Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. The Beaver Tailwater is near the town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas which offers many distinctive Bed & Breakfasts also as restaurants to make a weekend trip an enjoyable affair with your special someone. Beaver Dam stands only 17 miles from the Arkansas-Missouri line. The Beaver Tailwater is just eight miles long, however it’s heavily stocked, with rainbows and brown trout mainly, however also cutthroats and brookies, like the other Arkansas tailwaters. All four trout species are able to effectively spawn in the Ozarks, however the brown trout in specific are thriving through natural reproduction in the tailwaters. It’s these "monster browns" that have earned the Ozark tailwater fisheries their repute. The Beaver Tailwater, which is recognized for its rainbows, has made some 10-pound brown trout and a 20-pounder was caught and released in an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission AGFC electrofishing sample in 1994. I started the day at the Bertrand Access and was going to fish the Spider Creek Hole. I have not fished this area much, however word of someone catching over 50 fish in 4 hours some weeks previous got my attention. I thought maybe I do not give this spot enough credit. I tied on a size 16 Black Zebra Midge and waded in to do fight. I finally wanted to fish at the bottom of the hole, however depth of the water and the capability to easily walk along the near side kept me at the top side, up from the ship ramp. The temperature also kept my expedition spirit and intentions in check, being lazy. (nwatrout.com)
A friend of mine told me if he was going to hire an ozark flyfishing guide it could be Jeremy Hunt. So I hired Jeremy with Flys and Guides, and it was the all around best guided fishing trip I have ever experienced. I contacted Jeremy and informed him of what my objectives were and he tailored the trip. I recieced top notch instruction, covering all of the bases for my current objectives, then some. No details were left out! I wish I may have had this trip years ago. It seemed we were the only ones catching many fish that day! Then to top it all off, he was the funnest guide I have ever had. Also to fishing big plugs on the surface, live-bait fishing and trolling are the two most well-liked and efficient ways to target Beaver Lake stripers. Most live-bait fishermen use small to medium-sized gizzard shad, which they may fish on free-lines, suspend under balloons or fish straight down on down-lines. Plans differ according to if stripers are schooling and how deep most shad and stripers show up on the graph. (stripers247.com)
Yearly, millions of fingerlings game fish from the Blackburn Creek Nursery Pond are released into the waters of Beaver Lake by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The 1st on-site rearing pond in this area, the Blackburn Creek Pond is the workplace for fishery biologists and other specialists in the field who work hard to keep Beaver Lake in the forefront of fish production. Fingerling species include: walleye, small mouth bass, blue and channel catfish, red-ear sunfish, white and black crappie. 200, 000 to 300, 000 fingerlings of different species are released yearly. Local angler Clyde Gregory said the water is clear and at normal level – fish the lily pads. Bream fishing was good around lily pads with worms and crickets. Crappie have been good; attempt minnows and jigs in lily pads. Bass reports are good; they’re hitting fake frogs around lily pads. Catfish reports are good, too; they’re going for worms and cut bait around cypress trees. . (Visit this site right here)
Fly selection has not been tough when the water is right. Prince nymphs and zebra midges are working if you are a nympher. Hare’s ears natural, and pheasant tails are taking some fish. Caddis are popping off here and there but I would not go out looking for a dry fly day now. Terrestrials are most likely just around the corner so do not forget to pack some hoppers, flying ants, and beetles. If you see a fish chomping near the bank you better think about what is falling off of the tree above it and not what is hatching from the river. Streamers are working but not also as earlier in the spring. (cumberlanddrifters.com)
