The Corps and powerhouse releases at Bull Shoals Dam on January 16. The Corps increased goes to about 30, 000 c. F. S. On January 21, then reduced goes somewhat to around 27, 000 c. F. S. Around February 3. Releases increased back up to 30, 000 cfs. February 8. On Thursday, February 11, the Corps closed all 17 spillway gates at Bull Shoals dam and opened two conduits with goes of about 30, 000 CFS. I started the day at the Bertrand Access and was going to fish the Spider Creek Hole. I have not fished this area much, however word of someone catching over 50 fish in 4 hours some weeks previous got my attention. I thought maybe I do not give this spot enough credit. I tied on a size 16 Black Zebra Midge and waded in to do fight. I finally wanted to fish at the bottom of the hole, however depth of the water and the capability to easily walk along the near side kept me at the top side, up from the ship ramp. The 1st on-site rearing pond in this area, the Blackburn Creek Pond is the workplace for fishery biologists and other specialists in the field who work hard to keep Beaver Lake in the forefront of fish production.  Fingerling species include: walleye, small mouth bass, blue and channel catfish, red-ear sunfish, white and black crappie. 200, 000 to 300, 000 fingerlings of different species are released yearly. Local angler Clyde Gregory said the water is clear and at normal level – fish the lily pads. Bream fishing was good around lily pads with worms and crickets. Crappie have been good; attempt minnows and jigs in lily pads. Bass reports are good; they’re hitting fake frogs around lily pads. Fly selection has not been tough when the water is right. Prince nymphs and zebra midges are working if you are a nympher. Hare’s ears natural, and pheasant tails are taking some fish. Caddis are popping off here and there but I would not go out looking for a dry fly day now. Terrestrials are most likely just around the corner so do not forget to pack some hoppers, flying ants, and beetles. If you see a fish chomping near the bank you better think about what is falling off of the tree above it and not what is hatching from the river.
