Tidal Waters Sport Fishing License is needed to fish or harvest all fish, as well as shellfish.  A maximum of two crab traps or rings or a mix of both can be fished by each person in ownership of a valid permit. The license must be made on ask by a fishery officer, conservation officer or fishery guardian, so ensure you have your license with you while fishing or transporting your catch.  yearly licenses are valid from date shown on the permit to the following March 31. Fisheries and Oceans Canada DFO conducts an internet survey of Tidal Waters Sport Fishing permit holders to proficiently and cost-effectively gather data on recreational fishing activity and catch in the tidal waters of British Columbia. The info collected can be used in mix with data from other resources to offer estimates of catch and effort in recreational fisheries. The permit condition for one fish 83cm head on equates to a fish 62. 25cm head off. DFO will accept a 63cm head off measurement as meeting the prerequisite of a whole fish being 83cm in length. You have to keep halibut in such a manner that the size of the fish may be readily determined. If you have two fish in your ownership you have to be able to demonstrate that at least one of them is 83cm or less. Halibut can be left whole, head on, gut removed. Fish of 63 cm head off can be cut into four fillets, one fillet has the pectoral fin and rear attached. If fish size is close to the 63cm bound, and the measure will be stretched by not having the back bone attached, it’s suggested that you leave the backbone attached to the fillet with the pectoral fin and rear attached. When travelling with kids, carry each child’s birth certification. When only one parent is travelling with the child ren, he or she should carry written permission from the other parent. Divorced parents who share custody should also carry copies of the legal custody papers. BCWF recently received a memo from the Environmental Law Clinic at the University of Victoria, who had been asked to offer a review of possible law reform alternatives that the province of British Columbia could use to offshoot the loss of protection afforded to fish and fish habitat consequently of rectifications to the federal Fisheries Act. The following memo gives a more complete review of part 9 of the Water Act and law reform opportunities. Included is a discussion of the current role of the Water Act in British Columbia, its restrictions, and suggestions for how it may be reformed to enable improved protection for fish and fish habitat.
