AQUEDUCT NEAR Department of Water Resources DWR is repairing the lining and fundamental embankment of the California Aqueduct near Taft. Repairs on a leak in the lining began January 11 and are projected to be finished by mid-February. As water is drained from this stretch of the Aqueduct to let for repairs, striped bass and other warm-water game fish gather in small and lonely pockets of water. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife doesn’t usually let relocation of non-native fish caused by the possible to introduce illnesses where the fish are relocated. The fish in the lowered stretch Pool 30 in DWR parlance won’t be moved to new habitat, and DWR is asking anglers to suspend their fishing caused by public safety concerns related to the closeness of the continuing fix work. The Aqueduct runs from the Delta east of San Francisco, south 293 miles to the Tehachapi Mountains where it’s pumped over the mountains to Los Angeles. I just bought a year fishing license some days ago for a camping/fishing trip for the weekend. Learned it's only good up til Jan first. So, to get my money's worth I'm going to go fishing lots. What are the best places to fish around here? I know the pond on Truxton and River Walk, however are there any other spots in town? What about spots just outside town? The aqueducts and canals around Fresno don’t offer tours like those you could take of the Panama Canal; but, engineering and construction buffs interested in looking at the man-made masterpieces can find some number of access points for observation. The aqueducts don’t offer great fishing opportunities, however do have some striped bass and catfish swimming around for very patient anglers. Outdoor fans who wish to ship, fish or take part in other water sports will head to the reservoirs that feed the canals. The catfish bite slowed a little, however still just on live minnows or cut baits. The largemouth bass bite is just to good on minnows and Senkos around the bridges. Most of the action is in the Lerdo or Highway 166 stretches. CASITAS: DFW fish plants last week and 3 weeks ago. The motion on a rainbows has stayed flattering acceptable and some bigger fish from a Tailwalker plant in Dec continue to show. The best motion was in a jetty area, reverse from a marina, and for trollers operative off a mouth of a marina. Matt Purnell, Ventura, landed a three-pound rainbow. The drum punch has stayed delayed to acceptable with many of a fish on jigging spoons or ice jigs, although some are display on plastics or nightcrawlers.
