The Magalloway at the outlet of Aziscohos Lake to the Maine-New Hampshire border is 8. 3 miles long. Season-long clerk creel surveys were conducted on the upper 6. 8 miles of this reach in 1998, 1999, and 2002. Goals of these surveys, funded and staffed by Florida Power and Light Co, were to document present levels of angler use, catch, and harvest previous to scheduled changes in flow regimes, and to start evaluation of a special harvest slot bound forced on brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis . The 2002 survey is the subject of this report. Results of the last surveys are included here for comparison. (state.me.us)
The fun does not cease at Rangeley Lakes with the end of summer. Fall colors paint the landscape in smart hues, adding a colorful new dimension to the bordering landscape. Wildlife is plentiful year-round, with a range of birds, waterfowl and mammals approaching the lakeshores to drink and bathe. Loons and great blue herons are generally common here, as are eagles and ospreys. Many of the resort cabins remain open to serve hunters and fall color observers. In winter, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing draw many outdoor fans to the Rangeley Lakes area. Over 250 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and almost 50 miles of cross-country ski trails beckon visitors for a weekend respite. (lakelubbers.com)
Told me the Mambo Minnow and Crystal Minnow also as sandworms are the tools for most of the catching at the mouth of the Mousam River where 30-inch-plus fish aren’t a problem with the occasional 40-inch fish really making things interesting. Those fishing after black seem to be catching bigger linesiders. Boaters are jigging up mackerel by Boone Island and just off the mouth of the Kennebec River. A live mackerel drifted through the mouth of the Mousam is striper slam dunk. Higgins Beach may also be rewarding when using livies. There s been some inshore cod catches just off Wells Beach! Kenny from Saco Bay said that while the rivers are good the beaches became better. (onthewater.com)
Water levels in area lakes and ponds are usually up, though West great Lake and great Lake Stream are down. With the deep snowpack, water regulators ran high goes on great Lake Stream through April to avoid flooding, however now great Lake Stream is running a little lower than average for this time of year. Anglers are catching fish, however fishing will improve once the water levels are bumped. Of interest to anglers will is that 75 retired brood salmon were stocked in the river earlier this year, also as 25 in the St. Croix below the powerhouse in Kellyland. (fishingnortheast.net)
This blog identifies the ponds in Oxford County, Maine that supply the best odds of catching brook trout throughout the spring of 2014. Most of the target ponds are below 50 acres and are so comparatively small. Some of these ponds may be fished from shore, however most are best fished from a canoe or another small craft. The fishing action on these bodies of water may be fast and mad in the spring. Trout activity usually peaks between late April and early June, after which the bite slows down caused by increasing surface water temperatures. (amazingfishametric.com)
Which became a national best-seller. The book with two other well-liked volumes she wrote at Forest Lodge describes log drives and Maine guides, big native brook trout and land-locked salmon, and the spectacular wild lakes that make up the famous Rangeley chain. It describes a place separately, a place that today we could call pure fantasy. It was a world that only a privileged few could experience 1st-hand. we’re honored to be able to extend that opportunity to you. (rapidriverflyfishing.com)
I had fished that stretch of river some times in the past. I had seen some pretty good caddis hatches in mid-June fifty miles south on the Androscoggin. In fact the last day we had fished the Androscoggin in the afternoon, and I had landed eighteen trout. Rich landed quite some also. But they were usually stocked, and they were only in the ten to fourteen inch range. We were looking forward to some bigger and wilder brookies on the Magalloway. Most of the day on the Magalloway was challenging technical fishing. Like most rivers in the neighborhood, it’s chosen as fly-fishing only with restrictive creel limitations. (troutdownstream.net)
Once the 12 slots are filled for a specific day, all future reservation inquiries will be told that access above the gates was filled allowing them the chance to book alternate dates if they wish to fish the upper Magalloway. As generally, the Big and Little Magalloway Rivers below Parmachenee Lake, also as Aziscohos Lake and the Lower River, are all readily available. In these regions, professional guides services are available if needed. (bosebuck.com)

Took us to all the good spots and we saw lots of redfish and some snook. The tide was in a little too much for ideal tailing conditions, however we had shots at some nice redfish. Unfortunately, they were real spooky and we did not have any hook-ups. Just as we were to get prepared to wrap things up, Capt. Paul said to make a last cast to the mangroves where we had seen a big snook cruising. I made another cast – nothing. Then I made another cast and – fish on! The snook grabbed the fly, thrashed around for a second, then took off on a drag-screaming run away from the mangroves good news! and across the flat to more mangroves bad news! The snook dove into a a tangle of downed mangroves that were remnants of damage from hurricane Charlie that roared right through here two years ago. (flyfishnewengland.com)
