Hey gang, just fueled up so we’re prepared to go for Sat. And Sun. We have people coming down for both days, also as my friend James Kennedy, so we’ll certainly be sailing. Plus, the weather is going to be beautiful for both days. We’re going to be trying for blackfish, ling and cod. Green crabs for bait, plus new clams. I’m not sure about the white leggers. Over at Fisherman’s World I spoke to Jeremy this week and he said that there’s still a pretty good herring bite taking place in the Harbor. The fish are showing a slight preference for smaller Sabiki rigs he suggested size 6 hooks for your best shot. Otherwise the striper bite in the Housy is still a viable choice but the bite is tough. The fish are schooled up in the deeper water as projected in February an this is when they begin to get a sever case of lock-jaw. On occasion a warm snap like the one predicted for this week can trigger them into feeding so this may be a good call if you are wanting to wet a line in the next few days. (thefisherman.com)

If your urge to fish won t be denied, look for a ship that s still sailing and give blackfish a attempt. To be honest, although, it s greatly not likely anybody will be sailing till afterward next week. The beaches are another choice. But, those will be pretty inhospitable till warmer weather returns after the weekend. You just may must be content with a comfy sofa and the divisional playoff games. (onthewater.com)

Ocean bluefishing remains awful. Capt. Dave Riback of the Queen Mary from Point nice said only two were caught by the complete fleet from Barnegat to Brooklyn throughout the day Sunday. Like other bluefishing party boats, he put his anglers into some sea bass and fluke. The Magic Hours trip was tough as bunkers could not be found in the gusty south wind, although one striper was jigged with 4-to-12-pound blues that were spotted on the surface. There was a bright spot Tuesday when the Golden Eagle from Belmar found some blues and had a high hook of six while the ship added 20 keeper fluke. (nj.com)

] forced us back to the dock earlier than we had wanted, leaving the bass blitzing all to themselves. After a cold night new comers from Massachusetts,  the Paul Richard party, were out for a slower start on the flats but after some moves we found big blues blitzing bait and reacting well to our artificials. At times all 5 anglers were hooked up and being drug around the ship in all different directions. The guys worked well as a team keeping away from tangles in the mayhem from there we moved over to the inlet for some more non stop bluefish action till the trip’s end. (More information)

Hey gang, Capt. Scott here. It was slow fluke fishing Sat. And Sun. Today was a pretty good bounceback with some nice keepers landed and lots of short action. It is a beautiful day too. It was a great weekend on the water and the fluke were biting. Friday, the same all-star fluke crew from last week came out again and went home with fillets. A nice mess of keepers covered the bottom of the cooler in spite of one of the best flukers on board having an off day, only catching shorts and talking to himself. Grumpy had the biggest at 5lbs. And ‘The Legend’ took the pool. Skip and the crew from HUMC had a happy 4th on the fluke grounds, catching many shorts and enough keepers for some good dinners. For some reasons stemming from a growing lack of interest caused by a mix of factors, as well as little financial reward, the rising availability of RSW herring and a shortage of fish along the Mourne shore where shoals of herring earlier came in each autumn to spawn on the gravelly bottom, the fishery died off coming into the 1990s. Throughout the next 15 years few skippers spent any time looking for herring on the shore, although there were rising visual signs yearly. Only from 2007 onwards did the fishery start to attract an upsurge of interest from some local inshore skippers as the conventional herring drift nets started to be hauled out of net stores in Annalong and Kilkeel.
